Now that the battle of Oghram is done, I think many of us are surprised at the result. Regardless, I was also surprised at how large the reveal was for the Tyranids this past Saturday. I was expecting the new Lictor character, and maybe a few other units, not nearly the deluge we got. That being said, it does beg the question: What would the Space Marine preview have looked like? At the start of the event GW promised a reveal of whichever army won. Assuming that both reveal are similar in size what new models are in store for the Space Marines when their codex drops?
- Primaris Assault Marines
- I think this is one of the easiest to guess as we have heard some rumors of these models so far. There is a clear gap hear that GW would like to fill as it sunsets the older, firstborn kits. I imagine there is be some possibility of a dual kit for a new Vanguard marine unit as well, but these might also be split out
- Primaris Captain With Jump Pack
- As above, these types of models usually come out in waves, and a Leader model would be the logical choice given the above guess. What weapons he comes with is anyone’s guess. I imagine a plasma pistol and some other melee weapon, probably not a powerfist, something more heroic like a sword.
- Terminator, Multi-Part kit
- This could also be a new kit for the Sternguard as well, both units are begging for expanded options and they follow the logic of the Tyranid releases shown. I think Sterngaurd need it more, as they are a unit that naturally wants to have a lot of customization, but the Terminator kit is more iconic. I wonder if the Terminators will get new weapon options to encourage people to buy the newer models, or will stick with the established options.
- Some Type of New Vehicle
- This is where things get tricky. The nids got an impressive new centerpiece model which begs the question, would the Space Marines also get a new model like this? A vehicle would be the logical choice, but what this could be is up in the air. Maybe a new venerable dread option, or some new variation of the Redemptor chassis would make sense. They could add another tank, maybe rework the Rhino kit? The Space Marine range is already pretty chock full of vehicles, so it doesn’t make sense to include a new one without replacing older ones.
It is entirely possible that the new models that will be displayed for the Space Marines are not as numerous as the Tyranids. goodness knows, the nids have needed an overhaul for a long time and they richly deserve the attention. I still feel that my guesses are missing a new character option in there somewhere so we will see! What do you think? What else will we see when the codex drops?
