Welcome to another sneak peek into the world of Star Wars: Shatterpoint. In today’s preview, we’ll delve into the life and battles of Savage Opress, the formidable Force-sensitive Nightbrother hailing from Dathomir, and also the younger sibling of the infamous Maul.
Opress’s combat capabilities and intensity are such that even Jedi Masters find him a formidable opponent.
Opress wasn’t always the fearsome warrior he’s known as today. He started out as a typical Nightbrother, without any connection to the Force and prohibited, like other males of his clan, from practicing the magick that the dominant Nightsisters wield. However, his fighting skills and palpable rage didn’t go unnoticed by Asajj Ventress, who encountered Opress during several intense combat trials. Opress was then subjected to dark magicks by Mother Talzin, transforming him into a fearsome warrior with a strong connection to the dark side of the Force.
Opress then served Count Dooku for a while, but his true allegiance lay with Mother Talzin and his fellow Dathomirians. He was later tasked with finding his brother Maul, who had been defeated by the Jedi and was presumed dead. After aiding in Maul’s recovery, the brothers banded together, fueled by their shared enmity for Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Opress’s conditioning served to amplify his already aggressive nature, making him a fearless adversary who charges at his enemies. His ability, Furious Rush, allows him to tap into the dark side of the Force for extra movement, enabling him to move even faster when injured. Opress sees Pain as Weakness and is so inured to it that he endures lesser damage from attacks and is not hindered by the first Shove he experiences, making it difficult to slow his relentless progress. When he Dashes forward in service of his leader, he comes across as an Unwitting Brute, especially when an allied Separatist or Dathomirian Primary Unit nearby begins its activation.
In his quest for battle, Opress always chooses the most dangerous enemy, giving little regard to his own safety. He can utilize the Force to unleash his Dark Fury on his adversaries when in close quarters, laying bare Force users who sustain damage from his assault. Living up to his reputation as an Overpowering Monster, Opress attacks with extra savagery and precision when confronting the primary threat to his allies.
Opress battles with unrestrained fury, aptly demonstrated by his Unchained Rage Stance. His mastery of the Double-Bladed Lightsaber is a sight to behold, especially when he uses Overpowering Monster, gaining advantage from a highly damaging Melee Expertise Chart. Opress’s Combat Tree lets him focus predominantly on inflicting damage. However, he isn’t without strategy; he can opt to sacrifice some damage output to Expose, Strain, and potentially Disarm his opponent. With enough successes, he can trigger Dark Fury as a free Active ability on his enemy in addition to his lightsaber onslaught, leading to even more devastation.
And there you have it – a closer look at Savage Opress, arguably one of the most terrifying and effective Secondary Units available to the Separatist Alliance and his fellow Dathomirians, whether it be his brother, Lord Maul, or Mother Talzin herself.
