Warlord Games Acquires French Revolutionary Wars Line of Miniatures

On the same day that Ridley Scott’s Napoleon trailer drops, Warlord Games has announced that they and their sister company, Skytrex, have acquired a line of French Revolutionary Wars miniatures. Let’s check them out!

Warlord Games, well known purveyor of historical miniatures, have announced this morning that they have acquired a line of miniatures depicting the French forces of the Revolutionary Wars period (1792-1802). The miniatures are historically accurate sculpts by Mathew Fletcher and compliment many of the ranges already supplied by both Warlord and Skytrex.

The French Revolutionary Wars came not long after the American Revolution. As royal excesses reached their zenith and the suffering of commoners their nadir, a popular uprising deposed the king and swept the country. The monarchies of Europe couldn’t take a threat to their power lying down, so they raised troops, issued stern warnings, and then promptly began losing wars to France, and a certain Corsican in particular, Napoleon Bonaparte.

France took on Austria and Prussia, then Spain, Italy, the Dutch, Egypt, the Ottomans, Switzerland, Russia, and Britain. One of the reasons that the French Revolutionary Wars and Napoleonic Wars are so popular for wargaming is the sheer magnitude of factions available to players. Colonialism mean that these wars were very nearly global in scale, with conflicts occurring as far apart as the Americas and Asia.

These models depict the French armies of the earlier wars, frequently referred to as the French Revolutionary Wars, for many of which Napoleon was not a primary figure, or even involved. The paint jobs on display leave a little something to be desired, but don’t let that fool you, the minis look to be well proportioned and highly detailed. Go check them out!
