Epic is Back!

The Not Warhammer 40,000 Preview did not disappoint, with a slew of awesome items, but perhaps the most exciting is the reveal of Epic 40K, reborn as Legions Imperialis!

Adeptus Titanicus, Space Marine, Epic, Epic: Armageddon, call it what you will, it’s back, baby! Today GW officially announced that the boxed set Legions Imperialis will be released in August. It will contain loads of minis in the “epic” scale of 6mm, less than a quarter the scale of normal 40K minis.

This boxed set is going back to the original setting for Adeptus Titanicus, the Horus Heresy. For those unfamiliar with the original game from 1988, GW didn’t have the money to make two separate factions in plastic, so they expanded the story of the Horus Heresy to explain why two identical factions were facing off.

This boxed set will still pit brother against brother, but it comes loaded with infantry options, tanks, and two Warhound titans that will allow for some unique force compositions. The box contents are:

  • 2x Warhound Scout Titans
  • 2x Space Marine Command Squads
  • 8x Space Marine tactical squads
  • 2x Space Marine assault squads
  • 2x Space Marine support squads
  • 2x Space Marine heavy support squads
  • 2x Space Marine Cataphractii Terminator squads
  • 3x Space Marine Sicaran Battle Tanks
  • 3x Space Marine Predator Battle Tanks
  • 4x Space Marine Contemptor Dreadnoughts
  • 2x Solar Malcador Heavy battle Tanks
  • 4x Solar Leman Russ Battle Tanks
  • 4x Solar Aethon heavy sentinels
  • 2x Solar Legate Commander or tactical command sections
  • 8x Solar Auxiliaries units
  • 4x Solar Auxiliaries with flamers units
  • 4x Solar Veletarii shock troops units
  • 4x Solar Charonite Ogryn squads

The addition of Auxilia is a welcome one to the Horus Heresy setting. These units are often mentioned in the different literature and army lists, but this is the first time I am aware of them receiving dedicated models. These minis are all in scale with Existing Adeptus Titanicus minis, as well, meaning that the groundwork has already been laid for some truly epic games!
