Proxy Wars – The Silver Chainsword: Octarius

In the grim darkness of the far future, hand picked cadres of elite soldiers are sent on special missions to retrieve vital intel, recover ancient relics, and slay fearsome creatures.

Welcome back to another edition of Proxy Wars, where we use miniatures we already own to try out a new ruleset. Yesterday I wrote an article about The Silver Bayonet: A Wargame of Napoleonic Gothic Horror. It is a fast playing, skirmish game which can most easily be explained as Player vs Player vs Environment (or PvPvE, to those in the know). In a normal game of The Silver Bayonet players choose a faction, then create a warband by selecting specialists available to that faction. This got me thinking “what better way to proxy this game than using Kill Team minis?” So today we will be looking at how best to fit the kill teams from the Octarius box into a game of SB.

The first hurdle to clear is figuring out what models are actually available to us if we have already put together these kill teams. For the Kommandos that’s pretty easy, as you can and should have assembled all of the specialists and still have two Kommando Boys, the squig and the grot. The Guardsmen are a little less certain, so I am going to make some assumptions about what we have available based on the prevailing online wisdom. Next we need to take a look at the list of specialists in The Silver Bayonet and see where these models fit best. Lastly, we will want to know what these specialists do in the context of SB, so I will include a brief description of them. Here is what I came up with:

You will likely notice that the Sergeant and Nob are not included in these lists. When making a warband in Silver Bayonet your commander is built separately, which is why these models were reserved. These lists give you two very different warbands of close to 100 points, the standard size. Honestly, this looks really fun, I can’t believe I haven’t done this sooner.

Stay tuned for the next installment of Proxy Wars – The Silver Chainsword, where we add the monster list to the 40K universe. Until then, happy hobbying!
