Key Changes in this Quarter’s Dataslate
To provide you with insights into the new adjustments, we had a chat with Elliot from the Kill Team design studio. Let’s dive into some of the notable changes:
- Intercession Squad Kill Team: Methodical and Rapid Chapter Tactics The commonly chosen Chapter Tactics of the Intercession Squad Kill Team have undergone two changes. While this team is designed for new players and remains the most frequently played Kill Team, it can present a challenging match-up for those unfamiliar with their tactics. The aim of these changes is to rebalance specific areas and level the playing field.
- Exaction Squad Kill Team: Empowering Adjustments The Exaction Squad Kill Team has been struggling to perform as well as anticipated. To address this, impactful adjustments have been made, including an additional Wound for every operative and increased offensive lethality. The theme of the team has been preserved by tying some of the extra lethality to their Ruthless Efficiency ability and making the Execution Order Tactical Ploy more user-friendly.
- Rubric Marines: Boosting their Presence Rubric Marines often find themselves overshadowed by other operatives in Warpcoven Kill Teams, such as powerful Sorcerers and more expendable Tzaangors. The balance update focuses on readjusting their APL (Adeptus Astartes Power Level) characteristic. Previously starting with 2 APL, Rubric Marines can now begin with 3 APL. However, if a nearby Sorcerer is not present during their activation, one APL is subtracted. This adjustment offers several implications, making it easier to command multiple Rubric Marines and enhancing their ability to control objectives beyond their activation. Additionally, they now boast an extra attack with their melee weapons.
- Recent Releases and Ongoing Evaluation It’s worth noting that this balance datasheet does not cover several recent releases, including Gallowfall and Ashes of Faith teams. The Fellgor Ravagers and Chaos Cult kill teams, featuring unique mechanics compensating for limited ranged weapon options, require further evaluation to ensure any necessary balance adjustments are made accurately.
- General Kill Team Rules Adjustments Some changes within this dataslate reflect shifts in the overall Kill Team rules. For instance, the Chaos Cult Iconarch’s Ruinous Invigoration ability now reduces damage to a minimum of 3, a consistency change similar to previous adjustments made to Ploys for Imperial Navy Breachers and Legionaries.
Additional Updates and Mission Adjustments Apart from the faction-specific changes, a few other modifications have been made. The Hearthkyn Salvagers’ Steady Advance ability has been completely replaced, aligning with the core rule change applicable to all kill teams in a previous balance dataslate. The Elucidian Starstriders’ rotor cannon has had Relentless reinstated, amplifying their offensive potential.
Moreover, the Loot mission from the Critical Ops mission pack has been adjusted. Previously, the maximum victory points available from the mission objective were raised, but the limited number of times players could perform the mission action hindered reaching the new maximum. This limitation has now been rectified.
Today, you can dive into the exciting new rules and experience the updated Kill Team dynamics firsthand. Remember to provide your valuable feedback as it plays a crucial role in shaping future enhancements. The Kill Team design studio appreciates every bit of input from the community.
