FLG Judge Talk: ACO Tips and Reminders

Hey everyone! Adam, FLG Head Judge and TFG Radio Host, here to give a few reminders for attending ACO this upcoming weekend.

This upcoming weekend we have the last 9th edition tournament run by Frontline Gaming, and possibly the last super major tournament running 9th edition. Although I seem to say this every time, I will continue to put out these reminders as both new and veteran players sometimes need to be reminded of things they may forget.

Check In Early

This is important to get the tournament started as smoothly as possible. More importantly, it helps us get started on time. You can start checking in on the BCP Player app up to 24hours before the event starts. Checking into registration with Kicker does not mean you are checked into the tournament. It is really easy to do and is literally just a push of a button. If you wait too long you won’t be paired and will end up not playing the first round, or worse, having to be paired with your buddy who also forgot to check in and who you drove/flew with to get there.

Get Paint Judged

I say this every time and for a reason. Even if you think you don’t have a chance, be sure to get your army judged for paint. This does two things, it gets you in the running for Hobby Paragon, which goes by your placing and paint score, but it also lets you know where you are at in your painting journey. You may have people around you that are very good at painting so you may also be good but don’t know it. Getting your army paint judged gives you a metric from someone that isn’t local to your area and also lets you see how you stack up to people from outside your area. Who knows, you may do well enough to actually contend for Hobby Paragon.

Have Fun

The point of this is to just have fun. There can only be one winner and it most likely won’t be you. When I regularly played in large events it was mainly to play games and meet with friends. If I happen to do well then great. Go to the meet and greet on Thursday and meet some old friends and new. You make lots of new friends that you will see around the local tournaments or at some of the larger tournaments. I have seen plenty of players get worked up during events where they are just not fun to play or cause a disruption in their general area because of their bad attitude. So just take a deep breath and try to have fun at the event and not stress so much about it. It’s probably your last tournament of 9th edition, so enjoy it.

I hope you found this article helpful. No article next week as I will be judging ACO.. In the meantime don’t forget to buy your tickets for our events.
