Round 5 is over and with it comes some major shifts in the landscape of the event. With 9undefeated players going into round, we had 5 marque matchups to keep track of.
The Tau of William Albilez was able to secure a victors against Scott Toebe’s Death Guard. Scott was already at one loss and the tie breaker used at this event is opponent win percentage. This being Scott’s second loss puts William at a disadvantage even if he wins his final game at claiming the top spot.
FLG staffer Jake Jacobson’s undefeated run with Ynnari was finally brought to an end by G. Green’s Iron Hands. Iron Hands successors have been VERY powerful in the recent meta, so G. has solid chance to claim the top spot.
James Carmona was able to prove World Eaters are more brutal than Lukas Troller’s Orks. James has lots of tournament experience which should come in clutch in keeping those nerves in check for the final round.
Christopher Shelton’s World Eaters were not so lucky, as Linton Rowan’s Space Wolves were able to take the match with a solid score of 84-53. Space Wolves have been on a solid tear lately, taking down another 8 round event this weekend in the hands of Mark Perry at the Rocky Top Rumble. Depending on the pairing, Linton has a solid shot at a podium spot.
The final top 10 match-up was between Tyler Bortel’s GSC and Forrest Phanton’s Space Wolves. Forrest was able to keep the GSC plans from coming to completion with a solid win of 97-77. Forrest just like Linton before him has a solid shot at the top spot this weekend.
Looking ahead to round 6, we have some of the final pairings to break down. James Carmon is taking on G. Greene. This could be a super tough match up for the World Eaters. Iron Hand successor list often run whirlwind of rage and a few units of vanguard, and Greene is no exception. This gives them both threats in shooting and combat. But James did bring some Chaos War Dogs to try to even out that shooting match up, so never count James out.
The other top table is Forrest Phanton’s Space Wolves into Linton Rowan’s Space Wolves. This almost guarantees a 6-0 Space Wolves player to take a top spot, the second such finish this weekend. This will be a super exciting match to keep an eye on, and only Russ himself will be able to predict the winner.
