This will be our final article on the Great Crusade survey as we look at Chaos players ad their views on the crusade system.
This year we had a similar number of Chaos participate in the survey (N:40). In terms of the demographics. General Chaos Space Marines have become the most popular faction (15), leapfrogging Death Guard (11) last year’s #1 chaos army.
Perceived Army Power
Last time only the Death Guard and Thousand Sons had crusade rules and both groups seemed to have .

These results seem to have been carried through to this year. Both as a percentage and a number this group had the fewest players perceiving their army’s rules to be above average in power. While I agree for most of the factions, I think the regular CSM have a very strong book and can create the most annoying crusade character possible.
Ability to Understand Army Rules
One advantage of this group is that the players seem to agree that their rules are easy to understand. Very few players reported any struggles, and had the broadest agreement compared to either the Imperium or Xenos players.
Campaign Satisfaction
Last year’s results showed the Chaos Players as being the most satisfied out of any other group, and this year the results are a bit different. Their overall rating of the last campaign they participated in was lower (3.42/4 in 2022 compared with 3.29/4 in 2023). This is actually the only group to report a lower satisfaction rating, which is surprising given how 4 of these books didn’t have custom crusade rules last year. They are also the group with the lowest satisfaction now, as well as the only group to show declines in satisfaction. It is possible the dissatisfaction is driven more by the events, rather than the player’s armies but it is interesting to think about.
