40K 10th Edition – Necrons Preview

Hi all,

the GW Community site is continuing its faction previews, and today’s subject is the Necrons!

The Necrons are a tricky army to balance as they have swung between being too weak and too tough to kill. In 10th GW is approaching this a different way.

This is more akin to some of the options that exist in Age of Sigmar, and while slightly weaker than what they have in 9th, is a lot simpler. This version is a lot more useful for vehicles as they can benefit from it (see the monolith later). Command protocols have also been massively simplified:

We also get to see our first Toughness 14 model, The Monolith.

This beats now is very tough and has a 2+ save. It looks like the living Metal rule is gone though. The Monolith is also very devastating it its weaponry, rocking a source of mortals and brutal close combat attack. We also get to see a slightly different approach to degrading with the Monolith losing some OC when it degrades.

When it comes to your core units, the Necron Warriors show the first modification of the Reanimation Protocols rule that we see.

They have a slightly worse leadership and still T4 which is interesting.

When it comes to re-worked weapons profiles, the aptly nicknamed “Casino Cannon” has some big changes:

You still are at the mercy of random shots but the penalty for moving isn’t as severe.

For their stratagem you will probably want some for of Destroyer Lord with your Ophidion Destroyers as this strat makes them blenders!

And remember, Frontline Gaming sells gaming products at a discount, every day in their webcart!
