Hi all,
Another day another preview of 10th from Warhammer Community! Today we are looking at the new rules for cover!
To start with, a major change is how cover works with units that have a 3+ save or better:
This will make marines, Custodes and terminators a lot less resilient in cover against AP0 shooting and is a good change. I imagine there will be a lot more AP0 guns after they rework all units. They have also ditched the keywords for terrain, and have simplified it to just a few types that we will go through.
As I recall, these types of terrain are pretty similar to their old iterations. Unless I am mistaken it looks like you can allocate wounds to a model in cover even if the rest of the squad is exposed.
It looks like woods have lost their -1 to hit penalty which is a big change. I am not sure how that squares with making the game less deadly.
This is an interesting set of changes. Ruins still block LoS but the Plunging Fire rules gives you more incentives to stick units high up. To be honest, I am not fully on board with some of these changes. I appreciate the elimination of the old keywords, as they were bulky and clumsy. I always forgot about defensible and discerning what things were Heavy Cover was annoying. It looks like ruins will be the only terrain piece of substance now that forests don’t have much of a role. We shall see, maybe having the benefit of cover will actually matter more this edition.
