Hey Everyone! Adam, FLG Head Judge and TFG Radio host, hereto introduce myself and what this series is about.
For those that don’t know me, or ready my GW Grognard articles, my name is Adam Solis and I am the FLG head judge. I am also of the host of the podcast TFG Radio, which has been running for 8 years now. I have been wargaming since I was 10 and have been playing Games Workshop games since the days of Rogue trader and the original Adeptus Titanicus. In case you haven’t seen me, I also am the head judge for many of Frontline’s events as well as organizing and running a couple events of my own. In addition to all this I also referee soccer on the side so as you can see all I do is judge, whether it’s miniature wargaming or youth sports. Even with all this I still find time to play non GW game, historicals mainly but I do play other systems. Having said all that, what will this article series be about? It will be focusing on a few things. Here are a few of them but these are only a sample of the types of subjects I will be covering.
Event Updates
In case you haven’t noticed, Frontline has a lot of events throughout the year. You may only plan on going to one or two events so it is important for you to know what is going on. Each player packet do share a lot of characteristics but there are times that changes have been made and players need to be aware of those changes. So other than the normal channels, such as podcasts and YouTube streams, this will also be another place where you can find any new or changed information leading up to the next event. A good example is the new edition of 40K. We have an idea of when it releases but because we don’t have an exact date we don’t know which rulesets some of the events later this year will use. Hopefully we will have an answer soon.
General Tournament Issues
A lot happens in tournaments, no matter how big or small. Although we can’t talk about a lot of things that happens at an event there are times where it would be best if there was some clarification or discussion about happenings at an event or even just general thoughts about attending events from the point of view of the judges. This would hopefully help players understand why certain things were done and maybe give examples to other judges and tournament organizers on how to handle things or just something to think about.
Explanation on how we do things
This is similar to general tournament issues but more specific. We often get asked about how we do things with some of the events that we run so I hope to use this platform to explain a few things. It would mainly be the reasoning behind the way we do things or even talk about how certain elements of the events evolved over time. I can maybe answer a rules question or two but I would rather you use the event form instead of asking me in this article as answers here would not be official.
I think I will stop here. I will try to get an article out a week around this time and hopefully you will find it both informative and helpful. If you see me at an event, don’t forget to say hello. Be sure to click the links below and get your tickets for the upcoming events and I’ll see you at the tabletop.
