More 10th Ed Reveals – Leaders and Units

Hi all,

One of the biggest changes that I didn’t see coming in 10th is the change to leaders. Rather then having to worry about being within 3″ all the time you will have a lot more flexibility now!

In the coming edition leaders are getting a major rework. Now they will work almost like upgrades to a squad that they are predominantly attached to. As you can see from the Primaris Lt. that buff is very good. However, you need to be careful as the buffs are locked to that unit alone. If it gets cut down you don’t get to join another one.

Since we don’t have unit types, each leader will have a certain number of squads they can join. This is a good balance mechanic as it can be FAQed later. It also provides a role for minor heroes as you are limited in how many leaders of each type are in a unit.

We also know that some characters can’t be targeted unless they are close to another unit like the current rules state. I think this is a good way to balance the perks of both systems, while massively simplifying the game. I have had multiple experiences of characters failing charges, or forgetting to think about how moving a unit will open a character up for shooting. You can tell they are very worried about the old death stars that used to rule the game, but this seems like a very solid step, and one of the things I am most excited for.
