Warhammer Community Drip Feeds 10th Ed. Codex Info

Hi All
While there isn’t a lot of new information here I think we might be able to glean some hints about the future of codexes in the latest Warhammer Community post.

The article itself is very sparse on details. We get the following nuggets:

While this just further confirms some rumors/news, I think it’s important to note what isn’t being said. It does look like codexes will still have all the rules, but what they mean by the phrase “will still be the main repository of the knowledge you need” is up in the air. They may lean more heavily on digital codes for an app or some other method of distributing rules.

There is no indication that the rules will always be free. They may not have decided on how to monetize them but the initial downloads are being pitched as if they are a one time thing. I think we may also see a shift away from faction rules being assigned to certain sub-factions. In the Imperial Guard book, regimental doctrines aren’t tied to Cadians, Catachans, etc. there is a lot more flexibility. I think this is a good move going forward as it avoids the argument that has existed since 5th edition which is “Why are your Salamanders painted like Ultramarines?” While this distinction might still exist for special Space Marine chapters (Dark Angels vs. Space Wolves) that question is one I have heard frequently from newer players.

I think this new edition will have a lot more openness for players in how they build, design and paint their models. I am hoping this spirit is found within and without the rule set, and allow gamers to get creative with their army compsoition but in a way that still favors balance.
