with the announcement from Games Workshop about the new edition, amongst other things, there is both excitement and anguish in the air depending on who you listen to. Now being a veteran of many edition changes I am not surprised by the announcement of a new edition, nor the fact that it means that some books are only relevant for a few months. What my vast experience also means is that I have some advice to give in order to prepare for a new edition. Now we may not know what to expect but there are certainly ways for you to prepare for the new edition or at least to get the most out of what you currently have. So this week here are a few things to help you cope with the new edition change and get ready for it.
Play as much as possible
At first this seems very counterintuitive since the current edition is ending. This precisely why you need to play more games. Once the new edition arrives your books are no longer valid. You need to squeeze as many games as possible out of your codex. This is especially true of the most recent codexes, Astra Militarum and World Eaters. Enjoy these benefits while you can because they are not going to last long. Get as much fun and play time while you can.
Get 2 of Everything
You might be questioning this but here me out. Right now most of us knows what units are good and what units are not good so we either already have those units or plan to buy them. Once the new edition hits we may not know what is good right off the bat. Once it is figured out you can bet those units will be hard to find, if they aren’t already. You need to start figuring out what units you either don’t have or have one of and start looking for more. If you can get 3 of everything that would be best. If only there was a place to buy 40K stuff.

Speaking of getting models, with a little tender loving care you can easily get models at a good price. I know some people shy away from used models but it really isn’t that big of a deal and you are not forced to buy the model. There are plenty of models in my army that were bought used and you really can’t tell the difference. It is a way to get inexpensive models and sometimes the only way you can find those hard to get models. Now if only I new of a place that sold used models. Hmmm……
