Hey everyone! Adam, TFG Radio host and FLG judge, here to talk about the start of our local 40K campaign.
I have been talking about 40K campaigns a lot lately. I play and judge a lot of 40K events also. Having played in competitive events for so long I felt like I needed a change of pace. I recently found my old set of Planetary Empires and started to talk to my local store about organizing a campaign using the tiles from that box set. I was able to get another complete set and so myself and 9 other players are battling it out for the planet of Pasdena IX.
Now one thing about the Planetary Empires box set is that it is from an earlier edition. Fifth edition to be exact. Because of the age of the rules for the set, all four pages of them, I had to change so that it was more in line with the current edition and not too complicated for a game that is complicated enough. You can find the rules on the button below:
Some highlights of the campaign rules:
- Players can play whoever they want
- Each win is a chance to gain a tile, it is not garaunteed
- Players with more tiles are penalized for playing against players with fewer tiles
- Winner is the first player to own 10 tiles and have played against all the participants
The players for this campaign are:
- Myself (Tzeentch Daemons)
- Salty John (Aeldari)
- Danny (World Eaters)
- Tom (Grey Knights)
- Chad (World Eaters)
- Iggy (Word Bearers)
- Ricky (Orks)
- Alex (Ulthwe)
- Paul (Blood Angels)
- Travis (Chaos Knights)
The Planet
Located in the Imperium Nihilus half of the galaxy, in the Segmentum Obscurus, the Pasdena system only recently had a path through the warp storms form for the forces of the Imperium to make their way to the planet. The planet itself was once a prosperous planet with many cities dotting the planet, before the formation of the Great Rift. Upon initial discovery many of the cities are ghost towns, if there are buildings left standing, with a majority of the population hiding in underground facilities waiting to see who will win the planet and decide their fate.
Forces of Chaos
The reveal of the planet did not go unnoticed. Not one but two different World Eater warbands have made planetfall and begin establishing areas in which to dedicate skulls to their blood god. A cabal of Word Bearers have also arrived on planet in order to carry out some arcane ritual for their dark gods. QA full household of Chaos Knights have also arrived. It is unknown whether they are there to help one of the other forces of chaos or to further their own agenda. Lastly, the servants of the Changer of Ways, Tzeentch, have also materialized on the world. Who knows what they plan to do and which armies they plan their schemes against. Probably all of them.
Xenos Forces
The servants of chaos were not the only ones attracted to the planet. With the sounds of battle reverberating across the galaxy, an ork waagh arrived on the planet to add to the bloodshed. Aeldari from two different craftworlds arrived on planet. One craftworld, Ulthwe, have been guided by their Farseers to this planet and have a plan in place to best direct the destiny of the planet, and maybe the galaxy. The other craftworld, of unknown origins, has not made any contact with their brethren and may actually be openly hostile to their kin. Only time will tell.
Forces of the Imperium
With the forces of the Imperium already stretched to the limit, there are very little help provided to the planet. A nearby force of Blood Angels were sent to the planet and have established a landing zone to hopefully expand the influence of the Imperium. To support the sons of Sanguinius, a force of Grey Knights arrived on planet to help fend off the large forces of chaos that are present. Hopefully the heroes of the Imperium can hold of their enemies long enough for the Imperium to send more forces to the planet.
That’s all for this week. Hope you enjoyed the article. I will be posting regular updates on the campaign so keep a look out. Don’t forget to visit our Facebook, Twitch, and Patreon pages to stay up to date on what we’re up to and when episodes drop!
