A Detailed Look at Clone Commander Cody

Clone Commander Cody and two of his most dependable soldiers are coming to the tabletop as the next release for Star Wars: Legion. Let’s take a look at their stats and abilities.

CT-2224 “Cody” served directly under Obi-Wan Kenobi in the clone wars as the second in command of 212th Legion. He quickly gained a reputation for courage, tactical creativity and dependability (until that whole Order 66 thing tanked his rep).

Cody can be taken as a commander for 105 points. As one would expect, he is no jedi in melee with only two red dice. His heavily modified DC-15A blaster is a bit of a different story, firing 2 red, one black and one white dice, with Lethal 1 and Impact 1. Oh, and he converts surges to crits. He’s no slouch as an actual commander, either, with Observe 2, Direct: Vehicle and Target 1. Rounding out his abilities he has Jump 1, Target 1 and uses red defense dice.

Three unique command cards are available to a force with Cody as their commander. Bring It Down! lets Cody perform his free actions twice and buffs friendly units that use observation tokens based on what they are attacking (suppressive for troopers, impact for vehicles). Have I Ever Let You Down? allows Cody to issue a command to a trooper unit and get a free attack against anyone who attacks it. Combined Arms (which should have been called Let’s Get Down!) lets Cody perform his free actions twice, issue commands to two troopers and two vehicles, AND allows troopers to make a speed 1 move alongside nearby vehicles that spend an observe token.

Cody is not alone, either. He comes with backup, in the form of two of Ghost Company’s most reliable soldiers. Waxer and Boil are both potential personnel upgrades for clone trooper squads who serve as squad leaders. Both leaders will give a squad Scout 1. Waxer also gives his squad Discipline 1, where Boil provides Guardian 1.

And there you have it! Cody, Waxer and Boil bring some serious flavor to Clone Wars games, but will we see them in competitive games? Let me know what you think in the comments!

Gray was lucky (and old) enough to buy a box of RTB01 space marines new off the shelf and the rest is history. His passion for miniatures and game development has lead him into sales and production roles for tabletop companies, and on Quixotic personal ventures as well. He loves retro, historical and indie gaming, has a keenly honed sense of nostalgia for 40K and WFB, and loves to paint. Most of his gaming is done with his two sons who are just discovering the joys of the hobby, and the rest of his time is spent reading History, Fantasy and Sci-Fi, or painting minis and writing games for fun.
