The Road to the NOVA Open 2023 – Planning the Journey

Hi All,
Last year I did a series of articles looking at the NOVA open and my preparations for it. This year I am doing the same, just starting a little earlier. This article will be brief, covering what events I am attending and how I am trying to prepare for those events.

Lessons from last year:
So I had a ton of fun at the Narrative event last year but felt I didn’t have time to enjoy as much of the con as I wanted to. This year I restructured my schedule to focus on a few one-day events, and to add some classes in as well. I want a more relaxed experience this year and so I also targeted doubles events, especially those that are advertised as being relaxed.

Current Schedule:
My current plan is this:

Planning:
I am really excited about this year’s slate of events, although I will miss my buddies playing the 40k narrative. Going into this event across three different games systems I am trying to plan how to bring the fewest armies possible. To that end, I settled on going with my new Hedonites of Slaanesh army I just started building. I got some of the old Juan Diaz Seekers and a Forge World Exalted Keeper of Secrets and that got me rolling.

Part of the issue is, I still don’t know what units will be good in the Hedonites book yet. I have my Warhammer Armies Project list down but will need to wait a few weeks to figure out my AoS list. That also makes it a challenge to start building and painting units. I am exploring some commission painting options and want to keep you all posted about my results. Commission painting is expensive but you can get some good results. I am excited to see how this project develops!

Well that does it for today! It’s a long road to the NOVA open but one I hope you will join me for!
