While this is a very basic initial set of rules, GW has released a short supplement for adding Daemon units to the Horus Heresy.
These daemons are a little different than those that are coming later and have their own special subtype called “Bound”. Bound units don’t modify their strength and toughness, lose strength if there are no friendly psykers, etc.
They also gain access to Aetheric Dominion abilities including:
- Move through cover and only lose 1 model to failed morale tests
- +1 to sweeping advance and Combat Scores in melee
- Gain a variety of weapon abilities like Lance, Shred, Concussive, however this is random.
- 6+++ but you also gain the Heavy subtype
- +1 to hit when fighting against other daemons, Psykers, Independent characters, etc.
- +1 to run and charge rolls, +1 to initiative when making a non-disorganized charge. Also re-roll failed blind and concussive tests
- Re-roll failed armor saves against attacks that are made wit ha strength lower than their toughness
- +1 Hammer of Wrath Attacks which all gain Deflagrate, you also get 1 2 shot shooting attack that is made at the user’s strength.
As you can see you have a ton of options here. There are certain abilities that coincide with specific gods in all but name so customize your force however you like!
There are a few unit entries to pick too.
- Samus
- Almost 400 points but hits like a truck and will annihilate enemies in challenges
- Generic Daemon Regent
- Daemon prince stats and can buy heralds. No psychic powers but gets an AP 2 sword
- Brutes
- Multi wound troops, hitting at S5 AP 3 and I5 with Murderous Strike 5+ and Rending 6+. However they are quite squishy with their invulnerability save at only 5+ and a 4+ armor save
- Ka’Bundha
- 525 points for the beefcake who will buff your army giving units with a certain Aetheric Dominion Rage (3)
So while this isn’t a terribly fleshed out list it does provide a way for Horus Heresy players to dribble in parts of their Chaos Daemon collections. I am curious how Games Workshop will build on these rules in future releases!
