Vashtorr the Arki-Fine and…a Free Army of Renown?

Hi All,

Another big dump of news and rules to check out on the community site! We got a peek at some of Vashtorr’s rules, as well as a free army of renown set of rules!

GW Starts the article off by introducing the Cogs of Vashtorr a new Army of Renown. You are limited in your HQs, no named characters or Daemon Princes. Neither can you include any cult models (Beserkers, Noise Marines, etc.). The army is geared around Daemon Engines, and provides a warlord trait giving you the ability to hand out a 5+++ to a friendly daemon engine. The army allows all daemon engines to always count as being in all Wanton Phases (getting extra hits on 6’s to hit) too. You can also give out the ability to fall back and charge via a relic.

Additional mobility is provided via the use of stratagems including the ability to advance and shoot AND charge.

This art is pretty sick, not going to lie

Other strats are decent too, Forge Surge gives you max shots on your daemon engine weapons, you can give your warlrod a chapter master re-roll bubble and then you also get an Agents of Vect ability.

Is this a really strong army? I don’t think so. Can it make an A+ tier meme army? You bet! Get a Brass Scorpion, Vashtorr and a few daemon engines to taste and you can roll at your opponent for 2-3 turns before you get wiped out. But what a 2-3 turns it will be!

Vashtorr himself looks to have a few abilities. He has a 4++ and reduces damage by 1.

He can also halve the range of enemy weapons, but has to be within 18″ meaning this really only helps you against units with 24″ or less weaponry that can’t move 6″+. Granted, you can also use this to draw people closer. He can troll vehicles too though so maybe you want to dump all the debuffs onto one vehicle? Over all he is a little squishy, he can Warpstrike allowing you to start in reserve although you lose some of your buffs in a Cogs of Vashtorr army. He hits pretty hard, and will easily cripple knights and dreads doing 12ish wounds on average, by my count. He is very vulnerable to counter charge though. He’s also a little steep at 260 points.

Anyway what are your thoughts? Is he a must buy for you? Are you going to bring a Cogs of Vashtorr Greater Brass Scorpion list to your next GT/RTT?
