FLG Helps Prep You for the Old World: The Empire

Hi All,

As we continue our series through the Old World’s armies it’s time to look at the Empire! The empire was always a very popular faction but one that had a large range. Many of your core options have persisted through to AoS but a few notable ones have not.

Old Range:
As mentioned earlier much of the army made the transition to Age of Sigmar. The kit refresh shortly before the End Times helped a lot. Many of your basic troops are included as well as most of your more unique units like Flagellants, Demigryphs, Steam Tanks, etc. Archers and militia are hard to come by, to say nothing about knights. You will also have to look outside the range for cannons and mortars but those aren’t hard models to find. Heroes are another concern. Most of your character options are gone (save those on a Griffon) so you may have to get creative with your customization.

Current Options:
There aren’t a whole lot of options in the current Age of Sigmar range to help bridge the gap. Likely because we haven’t seen any new waves of releases for the Cities (though that is changing soon). If you look at the Underworlds warbands, the Hexbane hunters and the ven Denst pair are great choices for some witchunters. Other than that you will have to be creative. To be honest though, I always find kit-bashing heroes to be one of the most fun parts about building an army.
