Batman Minaitures Game LVO EXCLUSIVE! T.O. Interview!

Rumours are circulating, people disappear. The streets go quiet and behind the scenes a mastermind works in mysterious ways… Hey Arkamites! Your Warden returns, The Warp Forge and do I have an article for you today!

Organizing a Tournament is an event that requires dedication, commitment, and effort to ensure that event is the best it can be and for the Batman Miniatures game there is only one person that makes each event more bigger, better and more bombastic than before and that’s Lance Vaughn! Lance has been making some of the biggest and best Tournaments for BMG at the Las Vegas Open for many years and spearheads the Nevada and SoCaL BMG Facebook Groups. Today I have an exclusive interview of his time in the ring to share with you!

Hi Lance, thanks so much for your time! I can’t wait to see the madness unfold in Gotham at the LVO this year! Please tell me a little about yourself?

Thanks for the opportunity to chat, Jacob. My name is Lance Vaughn. Guess you could say I’m a senior citizen gamer lol. I’ve been playing tabletop games since 1978 so I will let you do the math. Started off with Dungeons & Dragons then moved on to Warhammer Fantasy then Warhammer 40K in high school. Then about 20 or so years ago I expanded out into the more skirmish style and historical games like Necromunda, Confrontation and Flames of War.

So how did you get into The Batman Miniatures Game?

When the game first came out 10 years ago, they carried it at the local game store I hung out at and my friend, who was also the owner, talked me into trying it. I have loved it and not looked back since.

What’s the most appealing aspect of BMG for you?

For me it’s a combination of 3 things. The game rules and mechanics are first rate.  The synergy of the gameplay coupled with the use of terrain is very visually appealing.  Those 2 things really enhance the players immersion into the game that draws you in and keeps you playing. And lastly the models are just fantastic.  They are some of the best mini sculpts on the market in my humble opinion. Not a fan of putting them together but that’s just because I much prefer building terrain versus models.

What’s your favourite model that’s come from BMG recently?

Hands down favourite is the Condiment King. How can you not love a guy with mustard and ketchup guns?

What’s your favourite Crew to play?

My all-time favourite is my original crew from 1st Edition. The Black Mask crew. But lately I found myself liking the Joker’s crew. The range of models for it is just outstanding. But I will always have a soft spot for Black Mask.

How long have you been hosting the LVO BMG Tourney’s?

This will be my 6th year.

What’s the best part of hosting the LVO BMG tournament for you?

Not sure how to answer that. I love building tables of terrain. With the hopes that players will like playing on them.  It’s also rewarding to have people come by and look at the tables and enjoy what they’re looking at. l love meeting people from around the country and further abroad. I’ve always enjoyed the tournament atmosphere, the bigger the better. I was never a tournament organizer until I started playing Batman and that aspect gradually won me over from being a player to being a T.O.

Ok, place your bets! Which faction do you think will take the crown of Gotham this year and why?

This year we’ve got some pretty serious players coming in. I think it’s going to be a tossup likely between Bane and either Organized Crime or the Blackfire Cult. Those are my top 3 picks.

Thanks for your time, Lance! Its always great to see the perspective of a TO and it really shows how much dedication and passion this community has as long time veterans from the game have seen it grow and develop over 10 years.

Don’t forget you can get a ton of gorgeous 3×3 mats at the FLG Store!

If you want to know how this year’s LVO went and who took the crown of Gotham, don’t worry! There will be an article tomorrow revealing all! Until then folks, this is The Warp Forge signing out and remember to tune in again. Same Bat-Time! Same Bat-Channel!
