Anytime you see GW release strats that are exclusive to a certain unit, especially really good ones, you have to wonder if that chosen unit will live up to the billing? It’s no use having a good strat if the unit is trash. Thus when this stratagem was revealed:
You had to wonder if the Eightbound would be any good? Well that seems to have been answered. In today’s community post. GW gave a full breakdown of their abilities and, well they look pretty dang good.
Now we don’t yet know their points value, but these guys will hit like a truck. Rocking 4 attacks base (before any modifiers, faction bonuses or strats come in) and having three wounds each make these guys souped up Chosen. They are S6 T5 but only have a 3+ save making them a little fragile (although they might get an invuln somehow). Compared to Possessed, these guys have an almost identical profile but do get an extra point of strength. Their attacks also even out when you consider the extra attack granted by the eviscerator. Alongside this unit you also get the Eightbound Exalted which I think will act as a Lieutenant type model for the World Eaters.
The option to have two chainfists is tempting as, while you lose an attack you gain +1 damage on your attacks which is somewhat rare these days. However if you still feel like you need to hit ab it harder take a look at this next strat:
It looks like the World Eaters will have no problem annihilating anything in close combat. I think that MSU will be the way to run these guys as larger units may just overkill their targets and smaller units net you more Blood Points. Unless there are some powerful hidden rules it looks like the World Eaters may be a bit of a glass cannon but that might also work with their ability to profit from the deaths of their own units. Time will tell, but these guys look like they will play as the lore stipulates. They will run at you, heedless of casualties and massacre anything they touch.
