Classic Middle Earth Models are Coming to Made to Order

Games Workshop has a wide range of heroes and villains from The Two Towers film coming to Made to Order. Most of them are concerned with Helm’s Deep, as you may imagine, but not all of them!

Twenty years ago in December The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers hit theaters with one of the greatest battle scenes ever put on film. GW would end up making a huge number of miniatures for the Battle of Helms deep but many other scenes as well. Now a significant number of them are being re-released in metal through GW’s Made to Order service.

Théoden, King of Rohan

Mounted, unarmored, a green riding cloak billowing behind him, Theoden leads the people of Edoras to the citadel of Helm’s Deep. He does not expect an attack on the road, and is not fully prepared for battle, but he will not be caught unarmed in case of a surprise.

Warg Riders

When Grimma Wormtongue fled back to his true master in the film (in the book he gets there after the Battle of Isengard) he tells Saruman of the likelihood that Theoden will evacuate his Capitol. Saruman sends out Warge Riders to ambush him on the march to Helm’s Deep. This set of three miniatures are armed with two bows and a throwing spear.

Gamling, Captain of Rohan

Gamling, Captain of Rohan, called Gamling The Old, by some. Mounted and fully armored he would be perfectly at home as part of Theoden’s Escort on the way to Helm’s Deep, Charging out of the Hornburg beside his king, or Riding across the Pelennor Fields.

Heroes of Helm’s Deep

The culminating battle of The Two Towers takes place at Helm’s Deep, where most of the story’s heroes have gathered. This classic set contains Theoden, Gamling, Eowyn, Aragorn, Gimli, Legolas, Haldir of Lothlorien and his banner bearer.

Uruk-hai Battering Ram

When the Uruk-hai lay siege they come prepared! Four Uruk-hai warriors bear this massive ram to the very gates of the Hornburg.

Gimli on Dead Uruk-hai

Perhaps my favorite deleted scene depicts my favorite dwarf sitting on a dead orc, his axe lodged in the unfortunate orc’s skull, smoking a pipe. This vision of quiet Dwarven malice is once again available as a mini!

Gandalf the White

Depicted both on foot and mounted, Gandalf returned after his fight with the Balrog to take Saruman’s color and turn the tide against the forces of evil. Shadowfax bore Gandalf on his many errands through Rohan but also in later adventures through Gondor.

Frodo Baggins, Samwise Gamgee and Gollum in Ithilien

These three models are originally from the Captured by Gondor boxed set. They depict Frodo reclining against a tree stump, Sam stoking a fire, and Gollum doing what he loves best: eating nice tasty fish!

Ringwraith on Fell Beast and Frodo

The Ringwraiths pursued Frodo ceaselessly, but they were seen in other parts of Middle Earth as well, astride their monstrous Fell Beasts. In Ithilien, the Garden of Gondor, and Osgiliath they terrorized the men of Gondor. This set comes with a Black Rider mounted on a Fell Beast and Frodo Baggins strongly considering using the ring! The miniature is metal but the Fell Beast’s wings are plastic.

Rangers of Ithilien

The Rangers of Ithilien are versatile warriors in the mold of the Dunedain of the north, Aragorn’s kinsmen. They prowl Gondor’s borders with Mordor, ambushing the forces of the Dark Lord when and wherever they may. This set contains four models aiming their bows.

Any of these heroes or villains would make a strong addition to a Middle Earth army! The metal rangers especially would look good mixed in with the contents of the new Battle for Osgiliath boxed set. What will you be picking up to augment your MESBG forces, or just to paint as a display piece?
