The Sky-hunter Squadron mounts three of the Imperium’s genetically engineered super warriors on top of three stripped down, bare bones machines that seem like they should be as deadly to their riders as the enemy. The Scimitar Jetbike, a “modern” version of a pre-Imperium design, is charitably referred to as a vehicle, though it is little more than a saddle and a large gun strapped to a bundle of grav-impellors with duct tape and a prayer to the Machine God.

These things are FAST! How fast? Fast enough that they get Shrouded (5+) just for moving! This damage mitigation is a welcome trait, since these mobile gun platforms can very easily get themselves isolated in a hurry.

But do not be fooled into thinking they can’t take care of themselves! The standard armament for one of these contraptions is a heavy bolter, which can be upgraded to a volkite culverin, a multi-melta, or a plasma cannon. That is a lot of potential violence moving around the board very quickly, and we haven’t even factored in the 8 foot tall, living murder machine riding this thing!

And it gets even better, because this squadron is Relentless. Relentless models can shoot with Heavy or Ordnance weapons, counting as stationary, even if they moved in the previous movement phase. They are also allowed to charge in the same turn they fire Heavy, Ordnance or Rapid Fire weapons. That’s right, they can fire as if they are standing still, then charge, and they get an extra hit with Hammer of Wrath at Initiative 10. And if that were not enough, they are also able to disengage with Hit & Run if things get a little too hot.

So where do we see these bad boys showing up? White Scars are an obvious choice. It’s hard not to picture Jaghatai Khan commandeering one of these things as soon as he lays eyes on it. The love of these squadrons among Konrad Curze’s Night Lords was widely known, and Sanguinius’ Blood Angels made extensive use of them as well. But it is hard to imagine any space marine legion that could not make use of these powerful, nimble and versatile squadrons. Indeed, even organizations famous for their plodding stoicism, such as the siege breakers of the Iron Warriors and Imperial Fists were known to have employed these vehicles from time to time.
