Hey everyone! Adam, from TFG Radio, here to give a bit info on my plans for the new year.
I play a lot of game systems outside, and in addition to, the games produced by Games Works. The last few years I have mainly focused on the GW games and I think it is time to shake things up. I decided to start a YouTube channel that focuses on historical games, my real passion, and also to play more non GW games going forward. So this week here is a look at some of the games I am looking to start out with this year.
Conquest
This would actually be my second attempt to getting into this game. I started when it originally was released and had a pretty good sized 100 Hundred Kingdoms army. Unfortunately I was not a fan of those early models and it was difficult to find other players in the area so I sold off the models. Fast forward a few years and I am going to be building a new Conquest army. The announcement of the City States faction, basically a fantasy version of the Greek city states from ancient Greece in our world, and a newer edition have given me the impetus to give the game a try again. There also seems to be a larger player base in my area as well as more support for the scene. I already know a few people that play as well as one or two people that are also either jumping back in or just starting out. Hopefully this second attempt will be much better.
StarWars: Shatterpoint
I am a big Star Wars fan, having seen the original trilogy in the theaters. I did not get into Star Wars: Legion or Star Wars: X-Wing because I already had 40K but I do have an Imperial and CIS fleet for Star Wars: Armada due to the fact that Battlefleet Gothic is no longer produced by Games Workshop. And yes I do have the Super Star Destroyer. I have tried Kill Team for 40K but it just doesn’t seem to grab me. It could be that I will always associate 40K with the main game as I judge and run various tournaments for it. When I saw the announcement for Shatterpoint I knew that I wanted to play it. Right now it looks like they will be focusing on the Clone Wars era and that’s fine as there are many characters and units in that era that I would forward to seeing represented on the tabletop if they aren’t already in the main game. Preorders for it should be soon.
Battletech
I’m not sure if I would call this a new game. Battletech has been around for much longer than the 40K universe. It is one of the first non-historical games I had played, having played just after they were forced to change the name of the game from Battledroids to Battletech. I have played it on and off ever since buying, selling various battlemechs through the years. I recently got my models from the Battletech: The Clans kickstarter and with the announcement of their new kickstarter, Battletech: Mercenaries, I will probably get back into the game once again. I will definately be playing the Alpha Strike version of the game as the original way to play was very time consuming and didn’t allow for large battles in a reasonable amount of time. Back to games at Solaris VII it is then.
