We may have missed the last preview update on Passing, but today Atomic Mass Games dropped more previews leading up to their new rules update in January.

Star Wars: Legion is kicking it into high gear with January quickly approaching and have been releasing great previews to get people ready for next year and this time we’re looking at the updated rules for Movement, being the last preview until the new rules releasing January 16, 2023.
Movement in tabletop wargames is one of the deciding factors on whether a general is performing well or not and sometimes it can get really jank. One problem with Star Wars: Legion was when you would try to move a unit around a building and having it get stuck during the measurement, meaning it was basically trapped because it hugged a building too closely.
The best solution was to just do a wide turn, but like I said earlier, when Movement in tabletop wargames is so important, these small changes end up making a big difference to games. However, Atomic Mass Games understand that this is an issue and have come up with the following solution:
Instead of guiding the model over the center of the movement tool, you instead just pick it up and place and it at the end and place the rest of the unit into cohesion.
This takes out a lot of messy grumblings of whether units can move to certain places without calling for a judge or bickering with your opponent so I’m all for this new change.
The biggest change though is in the ability to traverse vertical distances more easily so players can things like terrain to more of an advantage. Clambering has been removed and abilities like Expert Climber and Scale have been revisited to fit the new way vertical movement is treated.
Now, Units can move over terrain shorter than their silhouette without taking any penalties! However if the terrain is taller, you have to use the climb movement to move up, onto or over the terrain feature.
These rules all look very exciting for the game and I’m interested to see how it changes up the way people tackle the new changes. For now, we’ll have to wait for the new set of rules to come out in January but it’s looking to be a jam packed month of updates for the miniature wargaming community.
