BREAKING NEWS! – NEW TOURNAMENT PACK, DETACHMENT, AND RULES FOR WARHAMMER 40,000

Games Workshop releases previews of the new Grand Tournament pack for the next season of Warhammer 40,000.

With the end of the year coming to a close, it’s time to get ready for the next season in Warhammer 40,000 with the newest Grand Tournament update and it’s looking like the company is going for a pretty big shake up.

As a TL;DR here are all of the updates mentioned in the article from the Warhammer Community Article:

That’s a lot to preview and a lot to unpack. Personally I find Reserves no longer costing CP and the Fortification changes to be the most interesting. Let’s take a look at the Arks of Omen Detachment first:

The Arks of Omen detachment is joining the ranks of how to build your army. Now all you need is just an HQ and 3 units of either Troops, Elites, Fast Attack, Heavy Supports or Lords of War all for 0 command points! Why are they implementing this detachment now and not earlier in this year after having to spend command points on detachments and relics and warlord traits? Who knows, but many will be enjoying this nice breath of air with some room to breath.

It began to feel, with the way armies were set up during list building and intense CP usage, you needed to get the most bang for your buck in your army and so it became a “game plan” game of whether or not you can execute your win condition instead of adjusting your gameplay on the fly.

I’m not investing my time right now to look into it very much until the full set of rules comes out so we can take everything into account. Anything said now about these previews are pretty much just purely speculation, however this feels like a detachment that is going to be abused pretty quickly.

Strategic Reserves no longer costing CP is pretty wild in my opinion. Instead of having to save points in list building you can just choose to basically put your units into deepstrike making turn 1 a lot safer than it already is and making turn 2 a lot more deadly. I’m sorry, but at this point if you’re getting wiped off the table on Turn 1, that’s pretty much your fault nowadays. You’re telling me I can hide half of my army for FREE turn 1 and then just walk them onto the board? Hell yeah.

I’m sick of this. GW do you want to allow people to soup their armies or not? Travelling Players at this point is almost a joke. I enjoy these free detachments but I’m hoping Genestealer Cults get better options than just a free detachment for Brood Brothers.

Double Hive Tyrant detachments sound pretty spicy and costs 1 less CP than it normally would. This really opens up a lot of options for certain armies like T’au and their Commanders while saving their command points.

The next point that I’m interested in is Fortifications becoming easier to deploy. What does that mean? Can I finally take my fortifications off the shelf and put them on the table? I’m excited to see what that entails because I’ve always enjoyed the idea of the units.

Finally we’ve got the updates to Secondaries, Primaries and Missions which is what everyone is really chomping at the bit for. Unfortunately, we don’t get much information for it however we do get some previews for the Salamnder and Emperor’s Children Secondaries.

I don’t know much about the Secondaries for these armies so I won’t comment on them, but from what people have been saying on places like Reddit, it looks good for them already.

You can get the new Grand Tournament Book early next year!
