Hi All,
Steve from Holy Havoc was kind enough to come back and give a wrap up interview about how the event went!
1. So how did the story go! What was the epic conclusion of the narrative?
SH: Better than 40% of the 30 teams were able to have their Warlord of Havoc ascend to take command from the general. The Spy of Havoc caused much mayhem stealing battalion plans and artifacts for game 4. Eventually the Spy was captured and some survived while others died from torture or other evil means.
2. In your opinion what was the best moment of the event (ie. Epic save roll, narrative moment, etc.)
SH: The biggest moment was the Shifting Monolith breaking the damage record in one turn. The Shifting Monolith causes Holy Wounds (these wounds can’t be negated by any means you have to take the damage) Here are the rules for the Shifting Monolith.
At the beginning of each team’s movement phase, they must move the Shifting Monolith. Roll 3D6 and move the Shifting Monolith in any direction. If the Shifting Monolith ends its movement on terrain or a unit; move the Shifting Monolith to clear the unit or terrain. There must be an open space for the Monolith to land. If the Shifting Monolith moves to any board edge the opposing team finishes its movement, repeat this process till an open space is found. The Shifting Monolith will continue to move this way until it has an open space to land on the table. Each time a unit friend and foe is passed over the by the Shifting Monolith they take D6 Holy Wounds. These Holy Wounds do not count towards Battleshock. After the Shifting Monolith moves and all Holy Wounds are applied each player rolls a D6 and applies the results to the on the table below to all the their units the Shifting Monolith passed over.
Blessings of Chaos
1, Nurgle’s Favor: All units re-roll hit rolls of 1.
2, Khorne’s Favor: All units are immune to battleshock.
3, Tzeentch’s Favor: All units re-roll save rolls of 1.
4, Slaanesh’s Favor: All units re-roll wound rolls of 1.
5-6, Chaos Wrath: All units suffer an additional D3+1 Holy Wounds.
These Blessings of Chaos end after each Battle Round.
The record was 129 (we thought that would never be broken) the new record now stands at 149. Honestly, for me it’s the utter joy of the players coming to our event and experiencing all the crazy rules. We had about 45% new players it was fantastic to watch all the excitement and the level of hobby went to 11.
3. Reflecting back on the day, what things went better than you had hoped?
SH: The amount of money raised for the charity broke a record, over $8000 So, amazed at the generosity of the community
4. Do you think you will run this event next year?
SH: Yes, as long as the community wants to keep coming we plan to keep it going.
5. What things would you want to improve on?
SH: The Spy of Havoc needs to do more, and play a bigger role in the narrative. As a refresher for the Spy of Havoc rules, players need to bring the Warscroll to me to check off the one use only event abilities they used after each game. This allowed me to see in real time what was being used and not. It was clear as the weekend progressed it was a mistake to make a Hero the Spy. At 1K for each player there just isn’t enough points and Heroes in the list so the Spy was being killed before they could trigger the Spy of Havoc abilities. I have decided the Spy of Havoc will be a random model or a unit champion, banner or musician of the players choosing that does not have the Hero keyword. This still needs play testing.
Thanks Steve! I appreciate your work here in the community and look forward to hearing (and maybe participating in) future events!
