Hey everyone! Adam, from TFG Radio, here to talk about moving forward.
With the upcoming release of the Astra Militarum, we are nearing the end of an edition. Sure we still have the World Eaters codex and we are still playing with 8th edition Space Marine Supplements but it seems that a lot of players are running on fumes when playing the game in it’s current state. These last few years we have seem a fairly consistent rules reset/update every few years. This week here are a few things I am hoping to see, either in a future balance update or in the new edition.
Usable Secondaries for Everyone
In case you haven’t noticed, there seems to be somewhat of an imbalance in army secondaries. For a lot of armies, their codex secondaries usually are not very good or are just okay. There are a few books, however, where the army can score their 45 points by just existing *cough* Necrons *cough*. I hope that there is a look at making all the secondaries more usable and/or toned down or even going back to limiting army secondary choices to one or two secondaries at most.
More Command Points (but not too much)
Okay, I really don’t mind the reduction in command points when the new mission book came out. I can see what Games Workshop was trying to do and I think that they have achieved it for the most part. The one complaint I have about the command point limitation is the fact that we have to pay command points for even for first warlord trait and relic. I feel that this is a bit much and I am hoping that when we see a new edition Games Workshop will give us back the free warlord trait and relic. This also kind of ties in with my last change that I want to see.
Less Stratagems
Have you ever actually counted how many stratagems there are in each codex? There are a lot. Way more than you probably need. I am not even counting any Army of Renown or other special formations for certain codexes. If you think about it, how many stratagems do you actually use? Not counted stratagems that are used pregame, like for extra relics or warlord traits, most players can count how many stratagems they use on one, maybe two, hands. Games Workshop can easily remove two thirds of the stratagems and I would be surprised if anyone notices. Check that, people may notice because the page count of their book and their datacard stack would be smaller.
