Hi all,
Today we are looking at the short, White Dwarf Path to Glory rules for the Flesh-eater Courts (FeC). These were released in the June edition. While these rules are more stripped down compared to the battletome releases they pack quite a punch.
Army Ability and Quest:
The FeC get a unique ability to recruit units they summon in-game onto their for a reduce cost. While this unit technically wouldn’t benefit from any actions or experience from the last battle it’s a cool way to tie in their lore. The FeC also get a really cool and amazing quest: Every time a “Courtier” model destroys an enemy unit you mark it down. Once you hit a tally of “3” you can pick any Courtier model to immediately get 10 renown points (experience). For those not familiar with Path to Glory rules units cap out at a max of 30 Renown. Thus you can get your Courtiers leveled up insanely quickly.
Upgrade Table and Territories
The FeC get a mini upgrade table that has three options:
- Exploding 6’s
- Roll three dice to return slain models. Serfs come back on a 2+, Knights on a 5+
- If within 6″ of your warlord the unit gets +1 attack
All-in-all not a bad set of abilities. Only two can be used by your characters which is a bit of a bummer. However, exploding 6’s to hit can be such a huge upgrade. The FeC also get three territory options too:
- One unit gets a renown point after each battle on a 4+
- Reduce the casualty score for a unit by a D3/D6 depending on if it participated in a battle.
- Once upgraded increase your monster limit by 4 and get a free Terrorghesit or Zombie dragon trait.
Summary
This set of rules is a pretty decent option. You get some broadly useful abilities for your units and a really powerful quest. I do wonder if I am missing something in that quest as it just seems so good. I don’t play FeC so maybe Courtiers aren’t very killy? Or are vulnerable lynch pins? Their territories and army rules are nice if a little niche. Naturally this doesn’t compare to a full set of rules, but it will keep you engaged until the next battletome.
