GW Grognard: Help with the Votaan Menace

Hey Everybody! Adam, from TFG Radio, here and I am back to help dealing with the Votaan.

Lately we have been seeing a lot of talk about the Leagues of Votaan. There are plenty of blogs, videos and posts about the army. Of course they all range in regards to the specific aspects of the army but what seems to be of most concern, especially for those in the competitive circles, is not the similarity to a certain building block manufacturer, or the way they have a modern look while still paying homage to their original aesthetic, but that they are over powered and a detriment to the game and hobby as a whole. So this week I will give you some tips about how best to deal with the Votaan threat when you arrive at your local tournament.

Ignore Them

This seems easy to do as the models are so small but there may be a lot of Votaan players at your event. The best way to deal with them is to just ignore them and act as if they aren’t even there. You may need the help of the TO or judge in this case as some issues may arise. If you are paired against a short, squat army then you simply act as if your opponent never arrived to the table, even if they are standing across from you. They are invisible. With the TO or judge’s help that would mean you would get the win since you have no opponent to play or you could simply get re-paired to an actual player.

Hide the Army

This one is more of a grey area. What you can do is help the Votaan player out and simply place their army in a spot that no one can find. You are doing this in order to be sure that the army isn’t stolen as there will be a lot of desperate people looking to get their Votaan fix and are willing to do anything to get it. At first the Votaan player may not appreciate what you have done for them so it may take some convincing and while you start to look or show them where the army is at they may not be able to get to their game in time and will have to forfeit. Now hopefully that game is against you so you either get a win or you get re-paired. In any case if you get re-paired you can then show the Votaan player where you have safely put their army and then they can get on with their round against someone else.

Don’t Go to the Event

The final option might be the easiest. Just don’t go to events that allow Votaan, if it really worries you that much. This way you don’t have to deal with the stress and anxiety of having to play against such an overpowered army. more importantly, if enough of you just stop going to events then maybe it will show organizers, and hopefully Games Workshop, that codexes like this is not good for the game and more effort should be made in army design and playtesting. However we all know you guys and gals are tournament junkies and will still go to events. You should all just take some time off and go “touch grass” as you young people say.

That’s all for this week. Hope you enjoyed the article. As a reminder these series of articles are mainly satire.
