Last week saw the first of the UK GT’s take place, with a great turnout in Wales for 20 players. The event took place in Pontypool with Duke’s Gaming and the legend Scaddman organising a spectacular event, which was tufted with prizes for everyone. The 2-day 6-game event saw many factions fight for the win but only one army got 6 wins. Thank you to ASOIAF-Stats.com for providing all the stats for the tournament so we can peek into the lists and games. Let us check out some of the top performers.

Adam primarily used Styr and did bring Mance for one of his 6 games. Adam walked away with 4 wins and 2 losses. I have to say I love the amount of Thenn units that were brought, it’s not something you see very often and so it must have been a blast to face the table. I love the combo of the Walrus Clan Chieftain helping the most defensive unit in the Free Folks roster become more so. Looking at the results, it looks like Adam had an incredibly close game with Steve Gage who took 3rd place at the end of the day.

Steve walked away with 4 wins and 2 losses just edging out ahead on points. He used Khal Drogo for all 6 games (poor Belwas). Whilst it is obvious that Khal Drogo would be featured near the top of the board, the list Steve brought was diverse and is easily obtainable for anyone looking to start the game since most of it is just out of the Starter Set. I adore the Belwas list and would have loved to have played against it.

Tom brought Neutrals of all things and walked away with 5 wins and 1 loss. Tom primarily used Ramsay for his games but did switch to the Roose list for one of them when facing Stannis Baratheon in a Feast for Crows. Congratulations to Tom for taking a very low tier faction that everyone deems awful to the top of the board, it is truly a feat. It looks like Tom had a few close games but the closest being against Stephen Connor’s Eddard Stark list.

Jacob was the only person to walk away with 6 wins and became the first winner of the Welsh GT. He played with Mance for all his six games. It looks like the toughest game was against Aaron Taylor’s Grey Worm list with only one point between then deciding the victor. Seeing Mance at the top of the food chain has become quite a common sight, this is very likely due to the activations Free Folk have and Mance’s cards. This is not the last we have seen of Mance Rayder’s reign of terror at the top tables, he is a solid contender to take the LGT in a few months too.
The event went down a charm thanks to the organisers, I must attend the next one to get in on the action as it looked like everyone was having a blast. We will be talking more about events over the next few weeks so stay tuned for those.
