Hey everyone! Adam, from TFG Radio, here to show you a few other chaos armies that interest me.
One of the good things about the new Chaos Space Marine codex is the variety that the book provides a player. There are a lot of units to choose from. Now whether they are good or bad is up for debate as people will place different values and what they consider what is good and bad about the units. In any case, there is a lot of different ways to play that I believe are effective and allows a player to do well in tournaments. You might not win a major tournament but I think you can easily have a good showing and not be considered bottom of the barrel any more. I know I have mentioned my love for Black Legion but there are a few of the other legions that have caught my eye. So here are the three legions and renegades that have caught my eye.
Word Bearers
In the past, this legion was rarely seen and used. Their old legion traits were not very good and they didn’t synergize very well with the rest of the army. The new legion traits are very good. Having a 5+ against mortal wounds is really useful with so many psychic armies out there now. It even helps out with weapons that do mortal wounds as well as protection when vehicles explode. The other legion trait, rerolling hit rolls when charging, charged, or heroically intervened, is such a nice boost. it is helpful no matter how your units end up in combat. Combine it with some hard hitting combats units and you can do some really damage on your opponent’s turn. I foresee a lot of new Word Bearer players in the future.
Emperor’s Children
Even with an 8th edition book and only one wound there were players that were doing their best with an Emperor’s Children army. The new codex has made them better and deadlier. Noise Marines are still a thing and the mark of slaneesh allows the whole army to always strike first. Although the bonus AP on 6’s to wound is a nice legion trait, their other one is the better of the two. Being able to ignore any or all penalties to hit in close combat and shooting a very strong. It negates any negative modifiers, whether it from your opponent or your own weapons, while still allowing you to receive any benefits to the weapon. There are also a few slaneesh only stratagems and relics that are nice for the army. I have seen people talking about them but have yet to see how they have been doing in tournaments, so hopefully they will make a splash soon.
Red Corsairs
I have tried to play 8th edition Red Corsairs in the current edition but they were still a tough army to play. With the new book, I already have a few ideas I want to try. Doubling the unit size when holding objectives is nice but the fact that they keep their advance and charge trait is still pretty good. The list I have in mind is essentially all of the faster daemon engines and a unit of bikes. There are a couple of daemon engines that can auto advance six inches, as well as the bike, so this gives them a very effective threat range. the other reason I want to run Red Corsairs is that they have a stratagem that delays an opponent’s reserve from deploying by 1 turn, up to a max of turn 3. This is a good against armies that have drop pods and other deep striking units and units in reserve. This will be an army where I can just throw stuff forward and see what happens.
