The Great Crusade Survey – Chaos Players

Hello All,
This will be the final installment of the survey analysis that deals with player reviews. The next article will focus on campaign data that you all submitted. This section will likely be brief (not only because of how few Chaos armies have Crusade rules but also how few Chaos armies there are). Let’s jump in!

Total responses: 43

Not a whole lot to say here except I was surprised that there were as many Chaos Daemons as Chaos Knight players who responded.

Army Crusade Rules

In this section we will analyze the results using similar tables to the last article. Since there are only two Chaos armies with their own crusade rules we will focus on them.

On average, I believe my army’s crusade rules are…Thousand SonsDeath Guard
More powerful than my opponent’s crusade rules01
About equal with my opponent’s crusade rules911
Less powerful than my opponent’s crusade rules24

Given that the Thousand Son’s main mechanic is really just an upgraded Relic mechanic, I understand these results. I think the Thousand Sons deserved better rules. The Death Guard also got expanded rules in a Crusade Supplement and so I am a little surprised at the number of response who believe their rules are under-powered. It is possible these players did not know about the expansion or that it simply isn’t enough to make them useful.

My army’s special rules are easy to understand.Thousand SonsDeath Guard
Strongly Agree24

Strongly Disagree00

Nothing much to note here, I agree that the rules for both of these armies are quite straightforward.

Please indicate how satisfied you are with your army’s specific crusade rulesThousand SonsDeath Guard
Very Satisfied12
Somewhat Satisfied98
Somewhat Dissatisfied04
Very Dissatisfied12

Once again I am surprised at how low the rating is for the Death Guard. It is possible that the responses were also affected by their army’s non-crusade rules as well. Death Guard do bridge the gap between the early crusade rules and the more expanded ones first seen in the Drukhari book but they aren’t nearly as basic as those in the Space Marine or Necron books.

Conclusion

Please indicate how satisfied you were with the last crusade campaign you participated in:Thousand SonsDeath GuardChaos Space Marines (generic value brand)Chaos KnightsChaos Daemons

As we continue to look at if a lack of satisfaction with army rules correlates with lower campaign satisfaction it’s encouraging to see that the Chaos players are (on average) the most satisfied group. None of the respondents were Very Dissatisfied with the campaign they participated in (possibly because of a good GM, or they are just used to being beat down at this point lol.) It is very noteworthy that the Chaos Knight players had a grand old time, though with such a small sample size it is impossible to generalize the results.
