GW Grognard: Fun Times at LVO

Hey everyone! Adam, from TFG Radio, here to talk about all the fun I had judging the Las Vegas Open last week.

Well I am finally recovered from judging the Las Vegas Open last weekend. After two years away it was fun going back. As always it was a good time meeting all the friends I had made over the course of the event over the years and making new friends. As with any of the other years I attended, there are plenty of stories to tell from the weekend, both on and off the tournament floor. This week we will look at a few of the memorable times that I had over the weekend, both good and bad. Okay, we all know even if it’s bad it is good since you get a good story out of it.

Following Directions

I must say that I was pretty impressed with people wearing masks at the event, no matter your personal opinion on the matter. About 99% of the attendees, from what I could see and i did visit the other halls, were wearing their masks. Most people were good about putting their masks back on when asked to so it did seem like a big deal. Now there were people that did not want to wear their masks and I question why they were at the event to begin with since we have been mentioning it leading up to the event. Oh well, all in all I think it went well and am glad that the community actually followed directions this time. Which brings me up to my next point.

Not Following Directions

Now we are at the opposite side of the spectrum where it seems people aren’t following directions. There were many cases of players without their rules, models that were not approved, and a few other things. Players were actually asking for rules decisions when they didn’t even have the rulebook or codex on hand, I saw plenty of PDFs and Battlescibe images but unfortunately they do not count as an official source of rules. We did accept the 40K app if you happen to have it, just not for list construction. Again, this is something that we mention constantly and I know it is a pain to carry a large number of books for your army but then you chose the army no one forced you to play an army that needs 6 books. There was also the issue with asking questions and getting model approval at or just after the cutoff date. Next time please try to get those in as early as possible as it makes answering those questions over time easier to handle than a deluge at 11:59pm on the date of the cutoff.

Trains(Games) Running On Time

This one is probably the highlight for me. At least the highlight I can talk about publicly. The games over the weekend actually went off on time. In the past there have been issues but this year things seemed to go fairly smooth. I din;t even have to enter in that many scores over the weekend and usually I enter in a lot of scores for players. I was both surprised and impressed by it as we had the most players at the event so far. Hopefully this is a new trend that will continue in the years to come.

That’s all for this week. Hope you enjoyed the article. Let me know what you think, and if you went to LVO how was it, in the comments section below. Don’t forget to visit our Facebook, Twitch, and Patreon pages to stay up to date on what we’re up to and when episodes drop!
