I took some time away from my puritan elves to try out the satanic ones. It was fun. They won me a lot of games and took me to my best result at a tournament so far. I also bought a Sisters army after I got bored of Drukhari. Then the Craftworld hype came into full force, we got a confirmed boxset, and just when I thought I was out…
Craftworld Eldar and Ynarri were my first love. I’ve got an exodite themed Craftworld army that I started building midway through 8th edition, and they haven’t exactly been good in awhile, especially after Ynarri got nerfed into the ground.
That codex is old as dirt, though, and playing like three units over and over again (I’m looking at you Reapers and Nightspinners) got a bit old and kind of sad. Variety is the spice of life after all. So, check out my new list!
Craftworld Patrol (Masterful Shots and Expert Crafters)
Autarch Skyrunner
10x Guardian Defenders (1 Shuriken Platform)
2×3 Shining Spears (Skilled Rider and Star Lance on Exarch)
4x Dark Reapers (Tempest Launcher and Rapid Shot on Exarch)
3x Shadowweavers
Craftworld Patrol (Masterful Shots and Expert Crafters)
Warlock Conclave (Jinx and Quicken)
10x Guardian Defenders
3 Shining Spears (Skilled Rider and Star Lance on Exarch)
5 Warp Spiders (Web of Deceit on Exarch)
Night Spinner (Crystal Targeting Matrix)
Night Spinner
Craftworld Patrol (Masterful Shots and Expert Crafters)
Farseer Skyrunner (Focus Will, Doom, Guide and Singing Spear)
Warlock Skyrunner (Focus Will & Quicken) Warlord with Seer of The Shifting Vector and the Phoenix Gem
2×5 Swooping Hawks (Evade on Exarch)
2×4 Dark Reapers (Tempest Launcher and Rapid Shot on Exarch)
That’s right, it shoots, it screens, it’s … it’s … a bog standard Craftworld list, with repetitive unit choices! I think a lot of you will know what this list is and what it does. It’s efficiency and ability blast my opponent from anywhere on the table is not important. That’s not what Craftworld Eldar means to me. This list happens to be the most competitive pure Craftworld list I can come up with, and it’s just a primer to encourage me to paint and convert up some more scaly monsters while I strap in and wait for this new codex. I am excited about the prospect of running my little lizards again.
Personally, I can get a big downtrodden with 40k when the meta is full of boogeymen and most of the units in your codex aren’t competitively viable. It’s great the Reapers and Spinners are so powerful, but I want Wraithblades and the Avatar of Khaine to be the centerpiece of an army that might not win LVO, but could give me a good chance of going 4-1 at a GT with some decent play and plenty of practice. I’m like a lot of other 40k players. I want to win a semi-large tournament so I can finally feel satisfied with dumping basically billions of dollars and hours into a game. I want my beloved Craftworld lizard people to be the boogeymen. Playing Drukhari was fun. Holding all that power in my hands was delicious, but Drukhari are not Tricksy. Asuryani with their double moves, (hopefully that stays) insane mix of speed, shooting and shenaniganry are as shwifty as they come.
Who knows what the future holds for Craftworld. It’s probably something absolutely busted that will drive 40k players into a frothy rage, but I’ll be smiling and casting psychic powers through it all.
