The Colonels Corner: Candle Making

Hey guys ‘n gals! Welcome to the first installment of the Colonel’s Corner. Here I will detail hobby tips and tricks to help take your armies and collections to the next level!

Many of you may know me from my quick 4 step tutorials on instagram and twitter. Here I plan to expand on some hobby projects that I can’t necessarily fit into 4 steps. With that being said… let’s jump in!

This week let’s talk about candles!

Personally I’m jumping into a new army this year. I decided to dedicate my soul to the ruinous powers, and have dedicated my soul to The Pantheon. I chose the Word Bearers for 2022. Being the religious zealots they are, I knew I needed a quick and easy way to make candles, and lots of them!

I’ve heard that some people have had success using small wires and wanted to give it a try for myself. I purchased 30 Gauge Flexible Silicone Electric Wire from Amazon and away we go!

I started by simply cutting off a length of wire and then using a sharp blade.

I then chopped off the end of the silicone tubing, leaving the internal wire intact to represent the wick.

You then simply chop the candle to length, dip the bottom in a hefty amount of super glue to represent the melted bottom.

Then we stick them down in whatever arrangement we like! I did a simple shrine as a proof of concept.

I also added tiny blobs of super glue to represent the flames. Once painted I was quite happy with the end result!

And there we have it! Simple and easy candles. I plan to use this technique on my Word Bearers legionaries and vehicles to help amp up the unholy zealot feel! If you want to follow my progress check me out on Twitter or Instagram
