Warhammer 40k fans, Las Vegas Open Head Judge and TFG Radio member SaltyJohn here to talk about this week in the ITC!
We are rapidly approaching the end of this ITC Season with the final event, the largest Warhammer 40k event in the world, the Las Vegas Open. If you’re looking for where to find the FLG Event FAQ click HERE! It can also be found in the LVO 2022 Warhammer 40k Player Packet. This year the LVO is on pace to have over 1,000 players and it is going to eclipse the last one we had in 2020, right before the world went nuts.
Going into the home stretch of the season a lot of exciting things have been happening. New releases announced for Custodes, and Genestealer Cults. The announcement by Games Workshop about their 6th month Seasons and the accompanying updated Missions and Points, paired with their Balance Datasheets that had been previously announced. It’s an exciting time for Competitive 40k going into the new year. First let’s look at the top 50 in the ITC going into the LVO as that is indicative of many of the players who will have a shot at winning LVO, and the ITC overall this season.
The top 25 is really stacked with some great talent. It is veritable who’s who of competitive Warhammer 40k with previous ITC and LVO Champions all over. Matt Root, fellow LVO Senior Judge is snuggly in 11th place. Notably, there’s only one player in the top 50 with only 5 of 6 events played. In fact, in the top 100, every player has played their max 6 events, if not more, for their score except one. Richard Siegler sits at 24th place in the world in the ITC having played only 5 events. That is nuts. Well done sir.
When you take a look further down into the top 50 there is a rapid drop in overall scores from the 1400s to the 11-1200s but all these players have a great chance at winning the ITC overall with a strong finish at LVO and some poor finished from other players. Stephen Box from Vanguard Tactics across the pond is always a great player to watch at any event he attends, I am sure he will put up from big numbers. Fellow So Cal player Junior Aflleje sits at 30th place in the ITC and could put up huge numbers at the LVO as well.
The other big news this week came from some leaks by Games Workshop surrounding Tau. It’s looking like Tau will be out soon, maybe February or March based on Custodes and GSC rumored to be in January? I honestly don’t know when they are coming out but the release of the Hammerhead Railgun profile has been an absolute gift from the meme gods.
It’s looking like we are going to be seeing a lot of Tau armies with 3 Hammerheads with Railguns supported by an additional Hammerhead with Railgun piloted by Longstrike. It’s going to get hot out there on the battlefield for those dreadnought and Knight armies!
So the Las Vegas Open 2022 is approaching us fast. It’s almost January, which is hard to believe. The ITC/FLG Judges have been going through the Rules questions and Conversion approval requests, please be patient as the process isn’t fast and with 1200 registered players we have a lot of them to go through. Please, check the FLG Events FAQ prior to sending in a question. If your question is already covered in there do not ask it again, we will not answer it, and asking it again will not get us to revisit the previous answer. In particular Argent Shroud has been covered, and we will not be changing the ruling. We have been having some issues accessing the Conversion pictures submitted through the Google Form so you may get an email from one of the judges asking you to please send it to us again as a response to the email. We apologize for the inconvenience but it is sometimes necessary. Also, please remember to consult the LVO 40k Players Packet as many of your questions will be answered in there as well.
The annual video PSA from the LVO Judges should be about a week into the New Year so please keep an eye out for that as well, it is another way we try to disseminate the relevant information in as many places and differentiated formats as we can. I hope to see you all at the Las Vegas Open in a few weeks’ time!
