Hey everyone! Adam, from TFG Radio, here to talk about some upcoming stuff for 40k that has me excited.
So the Ork codex is out, sort of, and the Adeptus Mechanicus codex has been nerfed, sort of. Now we are starting to see some info coming out for the Grey Knights and Thousand Sons armies. Unfortunately what we aren’t seeing is when the box set will be released or when the codexes will be released. This leads to one of my favorite pastimes: random speculation! So this week here are a few things I am hoping for with the release of the new codex for Thousand Sons and Grey Knights.
Devastating Magic
I’m not going to lie, I am build a Thousand Sons army on my way to having an army for every chaos legion. The current count is 4, Black Legion, Death Guard, World Eaters(Danny’s), and Alpha Legion (Tom’s). I am also building an Emperor’s Children army but I am not here to talk about them, yet. I am hoping that the psychic powers for these two psychic armies are really good and cause a bit of a shake up in the meta. Maybe not old 5th edition Jaws of the World Wolf good, but I won’t be mad if we get something like that. It would certainly be something different and we may see a rise in people bringing psychers or anti-magic tech to deal with the new hotness.
Sturdier Soldiers
Being one of the last space marine/chaos space marine books to be transitioned over to ninth edition has made it a bit hard for these armies to stay relevant on the battlefield. Their lack of extra wounds can really be felt when compared to their more modern brethren. I can’t wait for their marines to get that extra wound they have been waiting a while for. Having played with Death Guard, the extra wound is nice and can sometimes come in clutch when you need a model alive to hold an objective. The extra wound, and hopefully some other defensive buffs, will really help in that regard. Now if only Games Workshop can somehow get around to giving the extra wound to regular Chaos Space Marines.
New Models/Units?
We have already seen a new model for Crowe and a new unit for the Thousand Sons but I am left wondering if there are any other new models or even new units. I am not too familiar to Grey Knights so I don’t know how they could get a new unit into their codex, especially if they don’t get the primaris treatment. If they don’t get the primaris treatment it’s fine, they didn’t need it, right? On the flip side, due to the nature of Tzeentch I can totally see the Thousand Sons getting new chaos models to fit the new codex. Not sure what it could be but I wouldn’t be surprised. Actually, I’ll just be happy if we get new sculpts for either army, at this point.
That’s all for this week. Hope you enjoyed the article. Let me know what you think, and what you look forward to in these new codexes, in the comments section below. Don’t forget to visit our Facebook, Twitch, and Patreon pages to stay up to date on what we’re up to and when episodes drop!

Not much speculating … but the Evergreen (blocker of the Suez Canal) finally docked in Rotterdam on Thursday so maybe global shipping is getting back to normal. GW were very conservative in saying a Codex a month – but few podcasters have tried to write on a calendar/speculate when each Codex will come out.
I agree that a CSM hould have come out earlier … but if it was bobbing around the South China Sea, the Suez Canal or in one of the 10,000s of containers off the west coast of the USA then GW are as clue-less as the rest of us. And we’ve already seen delayed releases in Japan, Australian and NZ which GW hate to do.
“Psychic Awakening” almost solved the GK problems in the last edition – they still struggled against vehicles soaking up their smite spam. They don’t need a lot more to compete in #newedition.
CSM have the models from the last edition and Belakor to lead them – with all the Legion rules collected together in a recent book.(A bit like CA2017.) I still hate though that all melee-focussed troops chose Khorn; shooters select a different God etc. It just feels wrong.
DG got the new models last edition so lots of players own them – probably more than any other CSM army so it wasn’t a commerical reach to see them released first.
