I don’t really like the Dakka rules as it is written. Measurements appear to be completed by model. A unit of 20-30 Boyz with Shootas may require multiple measurements to determine how many dice each model rolls (which models are within/outside half range). Compound this over multiple units and it appears like a mechanic that will further slow the game.
Yeah, for larger units it would come up as with rapid fire weapons. Not sure how much it would slow things down though, you just do a sweep with your tape measure and go from there.

Rapid Fire has the same issue for sure and it does slow the game down when I play against Marines (primarily). Just not a big fan of this mechanic.
