Hey everyone! Adam, from TFG Radio, here to give you a little insight into the recent Code of Conduct.
If you have been following the ITC and Frontline Gaming, then you know that they recently released an updated version of the Code of Conduct. There are a few changes that have caused some ripples in the community, and some people still have issues with some of the new parts of the code of conduct. There are plenty of places that talk about the changes but this week I’m going to give you a peek behind the curtain and let you know some of the ideas that almost made it into the list of fouls and penalties they would incur*.
Meta Chasing
Some of us thought that this would have had a positive reaction. It would require judges to really stay on the pulse of the meta and use their judgement to punish those players that are always chasing the meta, whether they were good with these armies or not. The points deduction would really depend on how strong the armies are. At one point we had decided to base the point penalty on the win percentage of the army. So, for example, Drukhari, with their 85% win rate, would start all their games with an 85 point deduction. In the end we decided that there would be too much bookkeeping and that many TOs probably wouldn’t do it.
Hygiene
I’ll be the first to admit, after a full day of gaming I am pretty ripe. At one point we had discussed a penalty for players that do not maintain proper hygiene, whether it was when they showed up to the event or during the event. The penalty would be determined by the strength of the odor. That may not be a big deal for some but could cost some people their game. In addition to the penalty, products would be provided to remedy the issue. We dropped this because some felt that it would be easier just to talk to the player and that should help. There was also the cost in providing the products because, let’s be honest, a TO would need a lot.
Playing Tau
This one should be obvious. We all know that anyone that is playing Tau do not deserve to have proper scores. In addition to the Meta Chasing point deduction, there would also be a point reduction just for playing the army. The actual amount would really be up to the tournament organizer. It can be as low as 0, although why would you do that, or as high as 99 (I am not a total jerk). We ended up not keeping this penalty because we all know Tau have an uphill battle, both on and off the tabletop. I mean we can always revisit this in the future if their 9th edition codex is actually good.
That’s all for this week. Hope you enjoyed the article. Let me know what you think, and what penalties you would have included, in the comments section below. Don’t forget to visit our Facebook, Twitch, and Patreon pages to stay up to date on what we’re up to and when episodes drop!
