GW Grognard: Flipping ain’t easy

Hey everyone! Adam, from TFG Radio, here to tell you how to maximize those ITC points for fun and notoriety. (results not guaranteed)

Well we seem to finally be back on track with 40k releases. We may see a little dip with the release of the new edition of Age of Sigmar but I am sure things will pick up again. Now that there are new releases, it is now time to start chasing the meta. Now we get to build and paint top tier armies as quickly as possible and exchange them for the next overpowered army, or at least the one we think will be overpowered. This week I’m here to help you with on how to do it.

Figure out what’s good

This might be the toughest part to figure out. It’s easy to do when there is only one book coming out but can be a little more difficult when you know that multiple books will be released relatively close to each other. Seeing the rules previews certainly help with that but that might be too late, especially considering the stock issues with Games Workshop. So this is really a case of making a best guess if you want to get a jump on the models. Speaking of which….

Get the models and start playing

This can be both the easiest and the hardest part of this endeavor. If it’s an army that is rarely played, you should be able to get your hands on the units you need. If you are looking at a more popular army then getting a hold of models for the army may be difficult. You will have to scour the inter webs to find what you need and maybe look at some second hand shops to help find what you need. After getting the army together, and getting the new book, you need to start playing. If the book is actually as good as you thought then spend the next few weeks dominating your local area. As a few weeks go by you need to begin thinking about the final stage.

Make room for the new hot stuff

This might be the hardest part, emotionally, for you. Try to not get attached to the army. There is also the difficulty of knowing when to sell. In the past, you could rely on the FAQ being out 2 weeks after the book releases. Nowadays it can range from 2 weeks to a month, and maybe longer. I would probably play the army for 2 or 3 weeks then sell it to help fund the next army. I wouldn’t stretch it past that just in case. Once you do that you just repeat the cycle and you are off to the races!

That’s all for this week. Hope you enjoyed the article. Let me know what you think, and what tricks you know to get that new hotness, in the comments section below. Don’t forget to visit our Facebook, Twitch, and Patreon pages to stay up to date on what we’re up to and when episodes drop!
