Hello, 40k fans! Salty John from TFG Radio here with another of my weekly articles discussing the past week in the ITC.
Unless you don’t stay up on what’s happening in Warhammer 40k, which if you’re reading his would be quite surprising, then you know some important FAQs hit the download queue of players everywhere a few days ago and the Meta has begun to shift.
There were some big changes to the current big baddies according to the internet, Drukhari. Despite the fact that they weren’t actually dominating the number one spots at most events, they did have an insane win percentage and so probably needed a bit of toning down.
There were a lot of other changes in this round of FAQs so if you haven’t actually downloaded those that are relevant to your faction you should, as well as the overall FAQ. Head over to the Warhammer Community page to get all your FAQ download needs met. With the Atlantic City Open just around the corner though, make sure if you’re attending, that you don’t start to play with those FAQs as they are not in effect for the event due to how close they were released to the ACO and after lists were already submitted.
Other big ITC related news this week is the announcement that tickets for the Las Vegas Open are going up for sale. Today. Make sure to jump on those if you want them. The new venue is amazing, it’s a huge space and the hotel rooms are a major step up from previous years. I am really excited to be back in 2022 as head judge for the largest Warhammer 40k tournament in the world. It’s a great all-around experience and I can say having only missed 1 LVO since they began that it really is a highlight of my year, every year. If you have the chance to go, you should, it caps off the whole ITC season and is generally just a really good time.
Besides the latest round of FAQs there are some other meteoric disturbances coming for the meta. Adeptus Mechanicus and Adepta Sororitas are both inbound and ready to hit that Drukhari infused meta hard. With Mechanicus we are seeing what looks like a very intense Skitari gun-line being possible and the flyers, which were popular even before this new book, look like they’ll remain a popular choice. If you live in an area with some hibernating Forgeworld armies be prepared to see them coming back to the tabletop soon.
As far as Sisters go they are already a pretty effective toolbox style list, so a new book might really ratchet that up a notch or it could break that. I doubt they will lose much in terms of their ability to handle the various mission objectives effectively, it feels more like they’re just getting some upgrades in terms of shiny new models. I discussed briefly already how Brandon Grant used a very well-balanced Tool Box style sisters list to win the Battle for LA Grant Tournament a few weeks ago. I can’t imagine the new book would turn Brandon off to the army, but it will be fun to see how he and the other great Sororitas players in the ITC adapt to the new book.
Overall the ITC standings didn’t change that much in the past week, but after this weekend and the ACO next, I am sure there will be a lot to look at. Next week for my Thursday article we will take a look at who is attending the ACO, what they’re bringing, and my predictions for who might have the best shot, and who might just spoil it all and come from the shadows to win!
