In case you missed it, Frontline Gaming is putting together a team even in Las Vegas later this year. Tickets are already almost sold out and it looks like it will be a fun event. To be honest, I have never been a big fan of team events but I can see the merits in playing in this type of event. The camaraderie and excitement of a team event can be memorable. There are also a few benefits to being part of a team at such an event. Here are a few of the things that you can do while participating in a team event.
Hobby Help
As I always mention, I hate painting. The good thing about being on a team going to a tournament is that you have a large number of people that could help you get your army ready. They can help you build and paint your army in record time. If you work it right, you can have a brand new army built and painted and you didn’t have to lift a finger, except to actually by the models. You can really take advantage of this when you are asked to play an army you don’t have, is really good, and no one else wants to play it. What a bunch of helpful friends you have. I mean that’s what teammates are for, right?
You Don’t Have to Win
Many players have a hard time dealing with the stress of winning. As the tournament progresses, and a player wins more games, it becomes a lot more stressful to keep on winning. Now this isn’t true of everyone but for most players this can be an issue. The beauty of a team event, depending on the format, is that you really don’t have to win. You just need to not lose too badly. Since, in many team events, it is the combined score that matters, you just need to score as many points as possible, win or lose. Because of this, even when you lose, you are still helping your team win the match. I mean as long as you don’t score zero points.
If you do lose, you can blame someone else
If you have ever worked just about any job you know there is always a way to shift the blame to someone else. In a team event you can easily use you blame shifting skills from your job here in the tournament. No longer will you have to blame your dice or the fact that you went second. You can now shift the blame for your team losing the match to the other members of the team or the coach, if your team has one. As always be sure to lead off with a positive statement like, ” I earned the points I was supposed to”. That always goes over well right before throwing your teammates under the bus.
