GW Grognard: How to Build a Ravenwing Army Cheap

Hey everyone! Adam, from TFG Radio, here to help you out in building your new Ravenwing army!

A new Dark Angels codex is upon us and that means a lot of list crafting and list theory. One thing that seems to be good are the Ravenwing bikers. I remember back in the day when I ran an all bike Ravenwing army. I mean a true one too. All bikes, attack bikes and land speeders. It was a fun army to play. I think I used the same models that are available now. In any case, here are some tips to help you bulk out your Ravenwing army without breaking the bank.

Always put a squad or two in reserve.

This seems more like tactics advise but hear me out. By putting a couple units in reserve you don’t need to have those models right now. That means as your models die they can form the squad that will be coming in from reserve. Since you have a few turns before they have to come in, hopefully enough of you models are removed from the table so that they can come in as the new squad. By playing in this manner you save a lot of money having to buy, assemble, and paint models that will only be needed for half the game, if it lasts that long. By seeing the same models that was just removed return to the table will also cause some dismay in your opponent as they think that they have somehow come back from the dead, oh the hilarity!

Cut them in half

This is an old trick that you used to see a lot of fantasy undead players use to bulk up their armies. You just need to cut your models in half and put each half on a separate base. All you have to do is make it look like the new model is going into or out of a warp tunnel, building door, or some type of sewer. There are plenty of ways to explain why the model looks the way it does. This will literally double the amount of models you have in the army. Combine it with the suggestion above and you can easily play an Apocalypse game with only 3 or 4 boxes of bikes. Your welcome.

Borrow your Buddy’s Ravenwing Army

Let’s be real. Sometimes it takes a lot of time, money, and effort to buy. build, and paint an army. It can sometimes be a bit daunting when you first start out to do it. Probably the easiest way to get past this hurdle is to just borrow the army from a friend that had done all the work already. I mean are they really going to be playing the army all of the time? They will probably move on to the next big thing anyway. You can help them, and yourself, by borrowing his army and using it against the new army you kill 2 virds with one stone. What a great friend you are!
