Hey everyone! Adam, from TFG Radio, here to show you the fun side of tabletop wargaming in the 40K universe. Well, at least fun to me.
I enjoy a good tank battle once in a while. One of my favorite articles in White Dwarf was a battle report that featured nothing but vehicles fighting it out. In the last couple of editions we have seen less and less vehicles and more bodies hit the tabletop. With the new edition and the recent adjustment to the mission packet, it seems like there may be some life back in my dream of a viable mechanized army, especially for my Astra Militarum force. Here are a few vehicle I hope I can play and still have a chance. Thank you Games Workshop for changing the “Bring it Down” points.
The Humble Chimera
I like this tank a lot. In the new edition, with it;s focus on holding objectives and performing actions, it is a cheap way to get your cannon fodder across the table and into the part of the battlefield you need them too. You also have some firepower with it so that it can still give you some better tactical options than some transports that are just a delivery system. They are also slightly longer than a rhino or Taurox so it is easier to move block the enemy if I really need them to. I just really miss their ability to ignore penalties when crossing water. I think I had done it once in all the years I have been playing.
Land Raider
This goes for any variant, Imperial or Chaos, and include the Spartan tanks even though it technically isn’t a Land Raider variant. I used to run a Land Raider once in a while back in the day. It was a powerful weapon in your army and people were right to be wary of it. Over time however the once mighty Land Raider is rarely seen on the battlefield as it became more of a speed bump in the hype deadly recent editions. Coupled with the secondary missions the Land Raider site in the motor pool gather cobwebs. I really should dust off my models once in a while. With the new terrain rules and mission adjustments I am hoping that putting a Land Raider in my army would prove beneficial. Whether it’s transporting my 3 wound terminators or just being an anchor point I really want to see the on the field again.
Any Super Heavy Tank
Did I mention I like tanks? Ever since I played Epic 40K I enjoyed seeing the super heavy tanks on the field. Something about the ridiculous size of them, when compared to everything else, just spoke to me. I know almost all of them lack an invulnerable save and you can’t take full advantage of cover, but I like big tanks and I cannot lie. I really don’t think they would bring anything worthwhile to the battle, I just want to see them again. Or maybe I’ll just stick to my modified Adeptus Titanicus games to get my tank fix.
That’s all for this week. Hope you enjoyed the article. Let me know what you think, and what vehicles you look forward to using, in the comments section below. Don’t forget to visit our Facebook, Twitch, and Patreon pages to stay up to date on what we’re up to and when episodes drop!
