GW Grognard: New weapons for a new edition

Hey everyone! Adam, from TFG Radio, here to talk about stuff I want to talk about. Usually 40K.

We are still just starting with this new edition. Thanks to the current situation the edition has gotten to a bit of a slow start. We are starting to see tournaments happen but certainly not at the pace this time last year. We also got new new codexes, new models, and some new weapons with the new edition. Although we did get some new weapons I think they are just rehashes of weapons we have all seen before. We need something new and bold to bring new life into the game to help those sagging stock prices of Games Workshop. That being said, here are a couple weapons I think Games Workshop should bring onto the tabletop.

New Power Pikes in action

Power Pike

For those not familiar, the pike is basically a really long spear. If you are familiar with Alexander the Great, or the 30 Years War, then you will know what a pike is. The Elday Fire Dragon Exarch can have something called a Fire Pike but it is way to short and is a gun. What I propose is a power weapon that is about 3 times the height of a primaris space marine. This allow Games Workshop to fully utilize the engagement range rule as the pikes will have at least a 3 inch or even 6 inch engagement range. Give the unit a mobile shield generator and you could literally have a wall of pikes marching across the table stabbing people from a foot away. This will also give people that have converted their space marines to look like Greek hoplites a chance to make them more historically accurate. Everybody wins!

LasPrinter Gun

This actually would be the main armament of a new army for the forces of the Imperium, The Administratum. Similar to the Lasgun, the Lasprinter would have the same stats with much the same effect. The difference is in their secondary use. The Lasgun doubles as a flashlight for the brave warriors of the Astra Militarum, because they fight in the dark a lot. The soldier-clerks of the Administratum would use their LasPrinter for printing out documents, when not holding off the hordes of enemies. This allows them to continue their administrative duties while fighting for the Emperor. This highly efficient gun will no doubt bring victory to their forces while, at the same time, make their office more efficient. Be on the lookout for this new codex next year!

Virus Grenade

Now this isn’t something new but it is something I would love for Games Workshop to bring back. This thing had the potential to wipe out your army, or a good portion of it. It can be very satisfying for the player that uses it, as long as it doesn’t affect their army also. Bringing this back will for sure make a lot of games end faster, or take longer if you have a horde army and the virus spreads.

That’s all for this week. Let me know what you think, and what weapon ideas you have for 40K, in the comments section below. Don’t forget to visit our Facebook, Twitch, and Patreon pages to stay up to date on what we’re up to and when episodes drop!
