Warcry: Catacombs – What’s in the Box?

WarCry Jul18 WarcryHeader21yhdw

Very hyped for this upcoming new release for Warcry! Check out the scoop on what comes in it, via the Warhammer-community team.

Warcry is back with a brand-new core box and a deadly new environment in which to battle rival warbands – the catacombs below the Eightpoints. In excited anticipation of this amazing set being up for pre-order this weekend, we’re diving into the box contents to learn exactly what you’ll find inside…

Two Warbands

First up, let’s take a proper look at the pair of brand-new warbands included in the set. The Scions of the Flame have already appeared in the lore, but now they’ve been fully realised with a stunning set of miniatures that perfectly represent the fire-worshipping Chaos zealots.

It’s fair to say that while the Scions of the Flame run hot, this makes them perfect opponents to face the cold, murderous fury of the Khainite Shadowstalkers – lethal aelven killers hand-picked by Morathi herself and augmented by supernatural powers.

You can learn more about the background of these two warbands in last week’s lore article, so be sure to give it a read if you haven’t already.

Gameboard and Terrain

In addition to the two warbands, the set also includes a 30″ x 22″ double-sided, fold-out gameboard to play on, representing the molten lava flows and dimly lit caverns of Varanthax’s Maw – a daemonic forge found at the heart of the Skullpike Mountains. If you wish, you can expand your gameboard options with four other underground locations, courtesy of the Warcry: Catacombs Board Pack that’s also available to pre-order this weekend.

The new core set contains no fewer than 37 pieces of dungeon terrain, from iron-barred gaols to columned archways and a variety of thematic detritus with which to add life to your gameboard.

Core Book and Catacombs

Warcry: Catacombs includes the full Core Book, which introduces the setting of the Bloodwind Spoil and contains all of the game’s main rules. It also features guidelines for open, narrative, and matched play, as well as multiple battleplans and Warcry’s unique campaign quest system.

The Catacombs book, meanwhile, takes the action underground, detailing the dangerous network of subterranean caverns surrounding Varanthax’s Maw. The book’s Tunnels of Death rules then go on to provide you with everything you need to know about fighting within this deadly environment, with sections devoted to dungeon battles, as well as campaign quests and even fated quests, which are available to every faction.

Gaming Tools

Rounding out the set to ensure you’ll be ready to play Warcry: Catacombs from the get-go is an ever-handy 12″ range ruler, 18 dice, and a double-sided card token board containing more than 70 pop-out tokens to keep track of the action in-game.

And there you have it – the complete contents of the new core set! We’ll be investigating different elements of Warcry: Catacombs throughout the week, so make sure you check in regularly for more articles. In fact, tomorrow, we’ll be taking a look at the rules for the new warbands.
