GW Grognard: If everything is Overpowered, nothing is Overpowered

Hey everyone! Adam here, from TFG Radio, to explain to you why everything is going to be okay.

Whew! It has been a very interesting week to say the least. We have seen a lot of new rules that have been dropped on us. At the same time we have seen a quicker turnaround on the FAQs. Although we seen some things being toned down because of the FAQs, we are also seeing what I would call an arms race in that codexes will be getting better and bigger guns to go with all the new shiny little plastic men. Now there have been some people that have lamented this as they are seeing space marines, once again, get better and better equipment. Many people are saying that they are becoming overpowered (OP) and that the game is becoming even deadlier than before. Is it a bad thing though?

Just you wait until October

Of course not! I mean lets look at what is going on. Sure space marines are getting a lot of good stuff. Extra wounds, deadlier units, and killier guns are just a few things that they are getting but its not just them getting new things. As we have already seen, the Necrons are also getting new things. The new models in the army look cool and will probably deal much death. We have already seen some of the changes to the weapons that many units already have and hopefully these deadly changes will continue with big units like the Monolith. I can’t wait to see what they do with that. And remember this love will be spread to all of the armies in the game. This news arms race can only mean good things, right?

No Savior Protocols for you , fleshbags

Of course it does! Everyone will be able to feel the deathly love that Games Workshop will be giving to every army in the game. I mean, depending on how games Workshop decides to roll this out, some players may have to wait a bit longer to get the apocalyptic weapons but I’m sure it will be fine. I mean constantly losing to armies that have better weapons, units, and strategies is something that comes with the territory and builds character, right? At least that’s what I tell myself. If Games Workshop happens to upgrade everyone’s weapons at once, oh boy will the games now become a bloodbath. Khorne will be even more pleased than he was before these upgrades. Pretty soon we will all have armies that are overpowered and if we have that then can we really say that they actually are overpowered?

People still play this, right?

We have seen something like this before in a small game called Warmachine. That game had plenty of overpowered units for everyone. Games ending on turn 1 were very common, whether it was because a player was able to get off their super combo right away or if their opponent was bad at guesstimating ranges. I know the game has somewhat moved away from that in recent years but the idea of big overpowering combos and units are still there. The idea of everything being overpowered, so nothing is, has worked so well for them that we see the game being played everywhere, right? Right?

That’s all for this week. Let me know what you think, and what you hope will change for some of your favorites units and weapons, in the comments section below. Don’t forget to visit our Facebook, Twitch, and Patreon pages to stay up to date on what we’re up to and when episodes drop!
